power steering makes my engine....

Well, besides the obvious fact that my car leaks power steering fluid everywhere; I'm noticing that when I'm idle and turning the steering wheel, it causes my engine to drop in rpms... enough to make you think its going to stall but it picks up right away. It never gets close enough to stalling, not like it used to when I needed to replace my fuel injector. I'm wondering though, does this mean I need to replace some expensive power steering parts? I havn't had my leak checked out by my dad yet, but I was wondering if anyone had similar experiences?

The engone is made to raise rpms as you turn the wheel to lock on either side. The way that the pump is set up makes it draw more power when turned to lock. The rpms will drop at first but kick right back up to compensate once the comp realizes the rpms are low.

Have the leak checked out soon though could it will lead to replacement of expensive p/s parts in the future. P/S pumps hate to run dry.

normal operational that the rpms drop as the motor is driving the belt for the hydrolics to move the wheels. as for that leak, check all ps hoses, mines leaked like crazy and it was a bit(h to fix. as said beofre you dont want to damage your power steering rack of pump,

The work of turning wheels needs energy, and it has to be taken somewhere. Typically its the engine... seem u horses still has flu: they want some attention. ... maintenance at predetermined intervals.

As the max steering equipment lacks (?) some safety valves, keeping tires turned unnecessarily fully against either side, breaks seals (by FSM).

yeah not only does it make my revs drop, it also dims my interior lights. i guess it has to do with my rebuilt alty i've had for 2 yrs with no problems

speaking of power steering, how does one remove PSF, so it can be replaced with ATF? i've looked all over the FSM, my automotive technology book, and they dont have anything on actually removing the fluid. only bleeding the air out. i've actually seen in the "Fluids and Lubricants" forum on someone removeing it, by using some hose to suck it right out of the PS resovior, but it wasnt done on a 3rd gen, so im a bit skeptical. any advice? thx
