ac/heat instrument panel

ac/heat instrument panel

hey i have a 91 gxe max and just yesterday i discovered that my ac/heat instrument panel doesnot work cause i went to turn on the air so i could un fog my windows, but when i go to turn it on i got nothin no fan comin on an none of the buttons on the panel lit up when i pressed then, so thought maybe a fuse is blown but i dunno what do you guys think.

Well start by checking for a fuse, otherwise there are a lot of connections on the back that you can check. Just remove the four screws on the radio bezel and pull it out. Be sure to disconnect the cig lighter and hazard switch first.

its not the fuses they are all good, any other ideas?

When you turn the lights on, does the panel light up at all?

- fuse may look good but be dead. Did u measure or swap?
- What are the all functions that are dead? Note: Main fuses beside batt.

yea i swapped the fuses in that are located in the car but i did not check ones by the batt could it be one of those and also there are no lights on at all when i press the buttons on the panel

What panel? Climate ctrl panel?

If limited only to that box, I doubt that any main fuse is blown, but does not hurt to check. U have to open and measure if voltage reaches u climate ctrl assy, maybe thats toasted; craig's page has lots info on how to, manual is poor but has schemas.

Blower has speed resistor beside blower motor, check under glovebox. Toasted?

ok now im confused i just went outside to my car to mess with it some more and i just started pushing the fan speed control back and forth and bam!!! I get air flow the lights are working the fan is blowing air everthing is working but i don't no what i did i notice is i turned on my car while i was play wit the fan speed switch and when the unit started blowing air 5 secs later i hear altenator whine. so now im confused why would it just come on all of a sudden and also why did my altenator start to whine? this car man has its own mind.

Bad switch...

Fan eats pwr. Alt has a bigger job. Loose alt belt?
