Well well well. I bought koni struts from Mr. Gone a week and some odd days ago. He told me they were good and were only used 5k miles. When I got them, the struts were BLOWN as heck. They were more blown then my stock struts that have been on there for 170k miles...............
Just thought everyone on here should know about my experience with Mr. Gone. Being such a maxima fanatic he is, he knew these struts were bad before he posted the auction. I can't believe a moderator on this website would stoop so low.

You should PM Jeff92SE (admin) about this issue. It is probably a good idea to work stuff out before firing off negative posts about a member in very good standing.
As for MrGone, I will vouch for him being a trusted member. I drove 3.5 hours to his house Sunday and we put on struts (Tokicos) and springs (Eibachs) I bought from him. I drove back 3.5 hours with no problems Sunday night. I have bought from or traded with him on numerous occasions for more than 1/2 of my mods.

Do you know what blown struts are like? Or do they just seem different then your stock struts? Because i know my tokikos felt totally different then my stock struts when they werent on the car, but it was just different not that they were blown.

When they left my house they were NOT blown. How they are I have no idea. Yes I am sure of the mileage. I also insured the package for $400 incase there was any problems with the shipping/etc.
I am also very upset that I came home from school to find a few PM's and IM's linking me to this thread, yet I did not even hear one thing from you in advance. I have a PM from you with a time stamp of 7:38PM and then you created this post at 7:42PM. I will address the PM in a few minutes aswell. It would have been more professional of you to give me more than 3-4 minutes to reply (and not even that as it probably took you that long to type up the post). I am more than willing to resolve this, but now I am less than happy with your actions, you have not even given me a chance.
Now for the PM, this is what you wrote me:

I'm betting you wish you didn't give me your address now huh, good thing I live in state, handle this right and do the right thing.
I think its ridiculous that I MAY have possibly been scammed out of $400 from a well known .ORG member.

If you could do us both a favor and contact FedEx first, or I will, but those struts were not blown when they left my hands. I have no idea how they ended up that way, but that is the whole reason why I paid extra for the extended insurance on them. Also I will expect a full retraction when this matter is finished.

I APOLIGIZE for whatever threats you think I have made, all I was implying was that if you are indeed trying to scam $400 from me, that you made the mistake of me being able to get your address because I will come find you if I need to resolve this problem. no threat at all was made....and if you are a legit business man like you say you are, then there shouldn't be any problem.

What kind of struts are these?
Koni struts are NOT gas-charged struts like the OEM or Tokico. they WILL fall into the strut bodies from their own weight. this is completely normal for them.
how much damping is actually there on the strut when you push on it though?
I've found the compression damping on the Konis to be slightly softer than Tokico, and the rebound goes from very very soft to EXTREMELY stiff as you adjust.
what actual tests have you done on these struts to conclude they are blown other than show them to a "mechanic" that may not even know the difference between sense-a-tracs and FLT-A2s and then explode on the forum publicly blasting a trusted member of the forums?

In this day and age, THAT is enough to be considered a threat and bears severe legal repercussions if something ever does happen to Shawn from this. Watch what you say man, it can come back to haunt you.

and don't insult my mechanic, he most likely knows more about cars than you do.

Whoever you are, listen and listen carefully. If Shawn (Mr. Gone) decides to file a very simple "Defamation of Character" or "Slander" suit against you, TRUST ME, you will lose. He doesn't even have to hire an attorney; a small claims judge will award him a minimum of a few grand. You know why? Because you never even allowed him to correspond with you and settle this professionally, and resorted to threats and slander.
So you can "APOLIGIZE" as much as you want. If Shawn doesn't sue you for defamation, it will only be out of the goodness of his heart. Otherwise, you will be "apoligizing" right up to the point the judge awards a judgement in his favor. Think I'm kidding? Call a law school and ask any professor.

I bet Matt knows a hell of a lot more about cars than you think. Your mechanic gets paid to do a job that he doesnt have to live with himself, he doesnt have to go home and drive the car he just fixed. Matt does, i bet Matt spends alot more time learning how things work, and what it takes to fix it because Matt knows that if something goes wrong he cant go and complain somewhere, thats why people here know alot about cars, because they want it done the right way in the first place.

it's a dampener...your typical grease monkey won't know that it's not gas charged and they will push it down and say that it's not coming back up so it's blown.
i'll insult your mechanic and say that this person doesn't have a clue what he's talking about.
do this test...push the piston in...determine if it takes more than 5lb of pressure to compress...THEN (here's the catch) pull it out by hand as fast as you can....you won't be able to because the oil inside the strut will DAMPEN the pulling force.
when my toks blew i can push it down fast (as fast as i can push it - no pressure) and pull it up just as fast....IF you feel any tension on both down and up then it's not blown.
are there any nicks, scores, deep grooves in the piston? do you see oil oosing out of the seal around the piston? those are signs of a blown strut.
if you don't believe me then call up shox.com and ask the people there. they will tell you if it's blown...and they will tell you that it's NOT GAS CHARGED. if you're still not happy w/ the answer call up koni and ask the guys there.
before you say that i'm looking out for mr gone...you're dead wrong.
you not knowing the actual product and laying blame on the seller due to your lack of product knowledge...really shows your character.
flame suit is on...bring it!

also, dont come here and bash even more well known members with stuff like, "i bet my mechanic knows more than you." a little childish dont you think? But, like matt said, i would look into that if i was you, instead of comming on here bashing people without contacting them first.

Defamation of Character suit = paying for turbo kit for MrGone's stang...hmmmmmm
dude you need to stop before you get too far behind
its not like Matt has a website devoted to suspension and stuff, what does he know.

there was no need to make a thread about this. if you have a problem with Mr.Gone, then handle it with him in a private professional manner. not in public especially if you havn't tried them on regardless of you knowing the difference between blown struts or not, a very immature thing to do. plus you can't really win in your claim since hes a mod with a good rep.

yes , the struts are scratched up, yes there are dents in the struts.
I guess they really are blown and Im not an idiot
thanks for the help danny

ok time to break out the digi cam and take pics. is there oil all over the place? is it coming out of the piston seal?
how does the packing look? does it look like a truck fell on it? possible damaged during shipping?
scratches that runs up and down the piston are generally accepted...it's not going to be smooth...but there should be no deep grooves on the actual piston.

I just find it hard to belive that all 4 could be blown at the same time.. I dont think I have even seen a car with 4 struts bad simutaniously (unless the were drove forever wiht the others bad)
did mrgone jump a maxima off a cliff?
Also as far as him not replying to your pm he did publicly and I can say that I do not blame him for not wanting you co-operate with you already. You could have pm'ed him and asked for his phone number to call and work things out and not automatticaly say that he is ripping you off.

In order (cliffs):
(also I dont have some odd PM's from the first PM till when he said he recieved them as I deleted them once he did recieve the package because he said everything was good).
I'm thinking his know all mechanic isn't all that great. Especially when he started saying Matt93SE and DanNY were wrong.
The threat
the back pedal! (the title basically stated that I was a scammer).
I never did get my apology
oh well, it has been resolved. I've sold more than most people paid for their cars on here and I've still got crap left so I must be doing something right.

You should call fedex and resolve it with them. Like I already said, I will bite the shipping I paid for them to you, and I will pay to ship them back, I would only think it reasonable of you to refund the $400 for the product. And for you to twist my words into something I didn't say, is wrong and immature

people need to remember that we live in a very litigious society.

Gotta sell those corbeaus too, and that exhaust, maybe that header and CAI too we'll see
