Has anyone purchased the hight performance cams that cattman sells what kind of gains can i hope to accomplish with these cams; also they are $550. What else comes with these cams do you get valve springs with them IMO that price is pretty steep if they r not included. The reason im asking this is because I am going to rebuild my engine for my 1990 GXE and figured while I had it all tore down id beef it up a bit.Any help would greatly be appreciated

As far as I know...

you only get the cams from Cattman....you'll also need new lifters(about $200 for 12). you can find cheaper set of cams made by ISKY for about $450. As usual expect the "high" price since the the JWT name is "written" on 'em!

IMO...

not until all the bolt-on mods are done will you see optimum gains.(not that I know what you have done to your car) Now from what I've heard the cams will help the VG in the mid to "high" end, but I'm not sure of the exact gains. there is a dyno out there somewhere of Stage II JWT cams on a non-turbo VG 300zx, I'll see if I can find them and post it. I'm sure having the heads, intake and exhaust manifolds ported & polished might help as well. In the long run though, since you are planning to "build-up" the engine and if you already have it taken apart, I say go for it!! since every bit helps. some other guys that can give you some feedback on the cams are Skymax(has JWT stage II's) and Nismo87(ISKY re-ground cams), I'm sure they'll throw their $.02 in on this topic as well.....

Don't get the stage II cams

Since you have a GXE with an auto the stage I cams would be a better buy. You don't need to buy new valve springs or lifters unless the stock peices are worn excessively. I had the ISKY 262 (a.k.a. NISMO euro cams)cams in my maxima. As of now ISKY offers 3 grinds, a 262, 270 and 280 grinds. The 280 grinds are very peaky on the toppend with losses in the lowend torque and your idle will be choppy at 900-1000rpm. If your going to rebuild your maxima engine here is what I would do. Install VG30DE pistons (gives you 10.5 compression) have the block machined for oil squirters from the VG30DETT. Next I would have the pistons coated from swaintech, balance and shot peen the rods and crankshaft. Have the head worked on with a valve job. Use your choice of camshafts (I like JWT's), get some type of phenolic spacers made for the intake manifold and upper intake collector gaskets. Bore the throttle body about 1-5mm on each opening. Of course you will need the normal bolt ons (CAI, Y pipe, B pipe and/or catback exhaust). After that I would get a JWT ECU with the 100hp nitrous program. That way at the track with race gas you can pull off killer times, and still have the NA power off the track. Don't forget to get a higher stall torque convertor and valve body recalibration. Or just go hardcore with the suspension

Also...

GUDE has cams for the VG30e engine series as well. they also offer a complete "Racing Package" for the VG engine which includes ported/polished heads and intake manifolds, "racing" valve regrind, and a set of Gude cams for $1700!
these are the specs of the cams-->

Nismo87 how do these specs compare to the Eurocams in terms of being aggressive or moderate??

None "pre"-made....

but if you want some, send a set of yours into Isky or Crower and have 'em whip you up a custom set!
