Ashtray and Cigarette Lighter
Hey all, I have done my bet to research this b4 asking so bear with me. I'm looking for the Industry part # for the bulb that lights up the ashtray. I went to the local parts place and got a bulb that looks almost exact to the one that came out but when you try to fit it in the bulb is slightly to big. I then went to a place thats a little bit more specialized in auto parts and they said that if I had the "Industry Part Number" they could get it for me. (sort of like the 9004, or 1157, ect.. I checked the link in the stickys and found that there are two bulbs that look like the one that I'm looking for but am not sure which one it is or even if this is the one at all. The two bulbs on the sylvania site that look like they match are the "T-1 1/2" and the "T-1 3/4". Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks, Ryan.

I dont know what the part # is....but have you tried checking a junkyard? Theres a achance u might find a bulb there, although obviously its not gonna be new...it will prob be cheap and you know it will fit. but to make sure it works is the question...

I've actually tried the junkyard and am getting tired of the bulb working for a few weeks and then blowing again. Its really starting to **** me off. There HAS to be someone that knows the part # of this bulb so I can save $9 from the dlr.

I second that, replaced mine as well, I think it was either 74 or 72, but I am sure it's one of those two sizes and none other, its going to be a tight fit, but it will fit.

if ur talking about the dashboard as in the hazard/defrost/vent bulbs the radio shack catalog number is 272-1092C, also called #7219. the gauges take 194's....Heres a link to some leds http://www.superbrightleds.com/1157.htm

those are the 194 bulbs, and you will need exactly 5, actually only 4, but I found a blank spot on mine, so the 5th one went in there, its location is in the top left corner (If I'm staring at the picture you posted.) IMO, don't go blue unless they are bright LEDs, the blue may look cool at first, but after a while of night driving, you won't be able to see it, has something to do with the human eyes I think.

a perfect example would be for you to maximize the pics that you had posted so that it covers the whole screen, then turn off the light and stare at for like 5 minutes, then glance away, and then quickly glance back to see if you can see the numbers clearly. I was there, I got my whole interior in blue and everything, then I realized I can't see **** with the blue light, and put orange bulbs in instead, so now I have the BMW look.
edit: also, due to the quality of the blue bulbs sold at the parts store, they will worsen the described "symptoms"

dark blue and blood red are the two colors to stay away from, think of contrasting colors, something that is well lit agains't black (night condition), some ideas are: true white, green(stock color in most cars), orange, REALLY BRIGHT blue, almost whit-ish. Those are some suggestions, I didn't try out mixing the bulb colors yet, so can't really tell you what it will turn out like, maybe a rainbow color dash with bright where you need, and you choose the rest. The only real way to find out if it suits your taste will be trying it out yourself.

alright, no more questions. have fun disassembling the dash to replace the bulbs. While you are at it, if you clock is acting up, might as well take the opportunity to resolder the connections, and change the bulbs in your A/C control as well, hell, while you're at it, just do the LED swap for your switches as well, instruction can be found on Craigh's web site in the stickies.
