oil pan

can anyone help me with this... i have everything off to get the oil pan off, like the front cross member, alternator, engine mounts, and i have all of the bolts off of the oil pan, and the brackets on the transmission, and i have the gasket loosened so everything wiggles, but on the transmission there is this metal plate that is holding the corner of the oil pan on... anyone know how to get this off? I will post a picture soon.

Where the oilpan connects to the tranny you can see the metal plate that its keeping the pan on...

to remove the metal plate you need to remove the two studs going in to it. (the two studs at the bottom of the tranny right above where you have the jack.) To do that you take 1 nut and thread it onto the stud. Then take anothe nut and tread it in top of that one. Then take two wrenches and tighten the nuts so that they are locking together. Then use the open end of your wrench and use it to turn the first nut. The stud should begin to turn instead of the nuts. Once you remove those two studs the metal plate should fall right off. (or you can for go all of this trouble and buy a stud remover but why spend the cash in my opinion.)

So i got the oil pan off... and there was some metal shavings in there, not a whole lot but it looked like someone spilt a tiny bit of glitter in some spots... i know that that isnt good, but is it bad or is it a normal thing?

After years you can expect to see a little glitter like you described at the bottom of the oil pan. Better at the bottom of the pan then other locations of the engine. Its not that bad.

What you could do, is get one of those gauges to meter the metal at the oil pan, now that would be a useful gauge, wouldn't it! If it was made, i'm sure u would buy it

Mike, thing is this guy loves gauges. I mean you gotta see his interior, its crazy. He has a gauge for reading practically everything, but he stated that some won't be used, they are just for show, cuz he drives a show car

I've added a large neodymium on the outside of the bolt, so now it catches atleast twice as much

edit: the N and S poles are on the left and right.
