Ok I was wondering. Ill see if my buddy has anything smaller laying around then.

Im really wondering which turbos you guys used, as that would point me in a much better direction. I might end up with a turbo with the right A/R but not the best if you know what I mean.

When is full boost hitting? How about the 1-3K range, hows the boost/power there? How about higher RPMs in 3-5th? Just wondering.

with the stock Z turbo full boost is probably around 2500 rpm. it should be quite a bit lower but my exhaust setup is all screwed up at the moment. once i fix it i should be able to spool that particular turbo without a load (which means the thing will spool very fast).

Nice, If your going to get rid of it soon, lmk. Id buy it.

Or if not I think I might just go grab one for myself.

As far as manifolds,do 2ed gen or 300zx manifolds flow enough, or would custom made headers work alot better? As far as spool goes.

i believe some Z31 guys have proven the stock Z manifolds to flow enough for 400 whp, which is damn good. the problem is you have to change some stuff around to make it all work. setting up the exhaust the way i showed in the diagram should allow for very good flow. if done right i believe it should flow better than the stock Z manifolds. i'm not positive on that but i'm pretty sure.

My buddy said it should be a good match, and since Im only going to be running 250-300HP I should be fine, as its rated to something like 400. Im just wonding if it will spool fast egnough or is it going to be a highway turbo.

If not, what turbos do you reccomend, or which ones have you guys used?

~Alex
That turbo built on a good high flow system would work very well, decent spool time and lots of top end power.... however, i would not recomend ever buying a turbo from ssautocrome, ive never heard anything but bad stuff about them . my turbo is considerably larger than that turbo (1.32 exhaust a/r) and i still hit full boost by about 3000-3500.

the big thing i'd worry about with that turbo is the large compressor. it looks like on the chart in the site i posted you'd be able to hit the numbers you want but it wouldn't even get into the compressor's high efficiency range. basically, i'd get a smaller compressor.

btw mtcookson... where do u tap the oil for the turbo on a stock vg? i saw from some sources that u have to drill into the block to get the oil flowing to ur turbo. would be best if u have a picture of where u tapped the oil from..

ahh yes, i forgot to mention that here. i have it listed on my website. you can use same spot that the Z31 turbo uses for the oil feel. it uses a banjo fitting stock so you could probably use one of those (or even modify the stock one, which is what i'm doing) or if you can find the right thread pattern setup a ss braided line.

I think the best way to turbo you VG maxima would just be to use the stock engine and turbo it. Reason being, you're already starting with a 9:1 c/r engine. Its not too high and not too low. It'll spool a turbo a lot faster than a low compression VG and you'll retain the stock low end power not to mention you'll have more power at the same boost as you would a stock VG30ET simply due to the c/r being .7 higher.

Good luck to those wanting to turbo their Max!
Yo that was a lot of stuff you said my man!! I was just wondering, I'm new to the world of Mod, and stuff. Start a thread with some simple terms, and Mods and build up to the big stuff!!!!

.....The hell???? Why don't you look around and figure out the simple stuff on your own. If you don't know the basics, then don't worry about turboing or anything else now. Find out how things work and google terms and use that newly aquired knowledge to figure out what Mark is talking about. Oh, by the way, welcome to the forums.
