I am begining to think from all of the threads that no one in the U.S. has seen a Nissan Maxima like mine. Well hears a description of my Max. Its a 1991 Nissan Maxima (obviously) "Brougham" Edition. I have the standard SOHC engine. with automatic climate control. Now here's the different part. I also have a full electronic dash with a heads up display which displays my speed on the widshield. Also you know next to your A/T switch you have a coin holder on my Max it has a button that controls the sonar Suspension. Sonar suspension a sonar unit in the front and the back of the nissan maxima the sonar unit takes a reading as to the conditions of the road (bumpy, flat, wet, etc...) and the speed that I am going at and automaticaly adjusts the suspension to suit those conditions (either Firm, Normal, or Soft). Something also different about my car is that being a Canadian car I don't have the automatic seat belt that the U.S. cars have. If you know of anyone else that has a Max like this please let me know who.

Ryan.

P.S.- I would like to post a picture of it but I don't know how can anyone tell me how to do this. Thanks :-)

all of those things about your max were options (for the GXE) in the first few years of production for 3rd gens in US
there are very few people with the digital climate control and even fewer with digital dash
the sonar suspension was an option, but I don't know anyone who has it and it's very expensive to replace/repair
all US models have the automatic seatbelts though

if you send me your pictures, I will post them for you

Sweet Ride!!

That sounds like a nice ride. I have a 93 GXE but it does have the climate control which I love.
Your car definitley sounds nice.

I have all of that stuff on my 90 GXE max.. I have the digital dash and climate control, I have the sonar **** and every thing else that you mentioned. The only diffrence is that I have power seat belts...

I have a question if any one can answer it.. I'm wondering if the sonar suspention is going to cause a problem when I lower my car with new spings and shocks???????

You're going to have a fun time trying to get aroudn the sonar suspension crap.. I would call a nissan dealer and talk to a mechanic about it before even thinking about lowering your car. I don't think you can simply buy new springs and struts and make everything work correctly.
I may be wrong there, but most of the places I've seen have seperate part #s for the sonar and regular suspension.

I really don't even care about the sonar ****.. If It's possible I would just like to get rid of it and put some ebich springs and some shocks on it and just do away with the sonar stuff......

Actually the shocks are interchangeable but you have to replace all 4.

Yeah, do both springs and struts at the same time.. I'd heard somewhere that the sonar junk is non-changeable, but if you can simply replace them with regular struts, that'll be the best way to go.

the whole thing took me and Kaleb about 4 hrs to do in my driveway on my car.. (but I don't have the sonar crap either)

How good is that Sonar Suspension anyways?

The only option I wish I had from that package is the climate control...and perhaps the gauges, for a few days, just to be different.

from what I was told

the sonar suspension is just about the best to have on a max or maybe thats just on the 2nd gen.s. Also the automatic adjustable kind that you can make soft or stiff by the push of the button were the best too. I heard that s why our maxes have sorry rear sway bars. because when nissan tested It I guess they had the sonar suspension in mind and since that worked well, the cars with out the sonar suspension ended up with wweak rear sway bars. Nismo87 told me something like this. He could clarify it better, but it was a stiff set up though when new.

Ohhhh OHhhh Ohhhh!!!!!

I have a digital climate control too!!!!! I love it! All I do is set the thing to 75 degrees in the winter and it automatically adjusts the temp and fan speed for me. Same thing for the summer, but it doesn't use the heat (he he he).
My fog lamp installation project went perfectly and my new fog lamps look and work great! It also looks real tight either on or off. I love these cars! Peace
