Door lock / Car alarm hell?
Door lock / Car alarm hell?
ok, so today I was at blockbuster renting some movies, and my car alarm went crazy. It's a Viper 771. Now I don't think the problem is related to the car alarm, I think its related to the door locks. This happened to me once before the alarm was installed. Basically, you try to use the door locks, and you hear clicking coming from the dash. Now I know car alarms make clicking noises, but this clicking was there before the car alarm was installed. It corrected itself but I'm wondering what part could be going bad? Now the reason this was a car alarm hell, I think it pissed off the car alarm that it couldn't unlock itself, so it went ballistic on me. Anyone have similar experiences?
In hell, u cannot sell. Just wait, eternally for doors to open. No, I will never get that experience, this is the 'FSM' explanation...
If u have a sound -click- there, its easy to zoom on i,t I suppose. The forum is full of stories where the resoldering repairs the intermittent faults: go radioshack and buy electronics solder and take all small boxes under dash, open, resolder. That will get most ballistics shot down...

Basically warm every tin spot u see, until tin melts through. Helps if little electronics solder (thin) is applied simultaneously. Also all connector slips on card edges (if tinned).
Look those soldering points with magnifier and bright light. No holes should be seen, all components connected nce and clean.
I suggest u take any component box out, and verify the condition. If no problem seen, resolder is not necessary. This cruise ctrl pcb was ok, no solder needed. I opened it just to verify... clic: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/748507/19

lock timer
I have a 92 SE and I have this same exact problem. We have traced it down to a faulty lock timer switch. It is located above the drivers knee under the kick panel. I don't know much about repairing these things so I have been looking at replacing it and they run about $85 thru Nissan. Trying to find one in a junkyard is about impossible. But I am still looking. I would rather spend my $85 on other accessories for this car.

resolder everything on the board, just touch ups really, that should do it. I'm not doing mine right now, I realized what caused my alarm hell now. My alarm installer didn't hook up the factory disarm wire... christ thats strike two for this jack ***. Good thing he was able to tell me what was wrong.
Hey I can sell u a working door lock timer for $25 (including shipping)..email me at akash4u@yahoo.com if u need it.
Thanks

There is a write up in CraigB's site in the stickies here. Mainly you just have to re-solder the connections around the relay area of the board of the door lock timer. I've done it on two of my cars and it makes them work great.
I Have The Same Problem With My Car. When I Try To Lock It I Hear Clicking From The Dash. What The Hell Do I Do Its Pissing Me Off. I Took Off The Door Pannel And It Locks Like The Locking Motor Is Burned How Much Do Those Cost.
hmm I forgot about this thread, anyways not sure what bhunter was screaming about with all that noobie ****, but anyways my problem was, the alarm installer did not hook up the factory alarm disarm wire. I could not tell the difference because he also hooked my alarm siren up to the factory horn. My door lock timer hasn't given me problems since then, so I don't see a point in fixing it unless it's broken
