you ever been caught going down a dark highway or road??? whenever cops see someone hitting the brakes while going past them, dont you think that they must be a little suspicious???. in other words why would you be slowing down???? you must be speeding.

Sorry to be hard on you, just noticed from your avatar that you are just 16. Switching off your brake lights is an extremely stupid thing to do. Don't do it.
Police realize that MOST people put on their brakes when they see a cop-that's normal behavior. They don't go after people for putting their brakes on. They DO go after 16 year olds with no brake lights who freakin' act guilty of something!!

Forget your switch to ooff [will happen], and be hit by blondie the unawares. Who is going to pay when your wreck will be examined? Please, instead use handbrake.

Handbrake can make a distinction between gettin ticket or not (20mph down fast and easy... New and/or lubricated wires will help, handle extension, of driver pushups...
Still: if u make your bypass switch, make a pushbutton type -sw so that you have to knowingly push it when u dont want lights to be seen.

Tell me, what a nonlocking-push-down-switch is called? Internetautomator was right to point this out...
I call it roo-switch with the same right than Queensland Aussie calls her bars roobars. Now start figuring out... [note: the bars are on cars]

nothin momentary in that switch, its only connected down as long as kangaroos poo... so roo-switch is more ON TOPIC. And a speedsterswitch is better to be connected as long as braking lasts, while his own policeman tries to peek out... not just momentarily.
But of course you were going to solder it into a latch, with 8080, using momentary s-witch... Remember to add battery pack not to loose programming during ECU reset.

OK since this thread isnt locked yet, I'll add my 2 cents. So, what you're saying is that if you hit your brakes and the cops see that, they will ticket you, right? Well, a friend of mine got a ticket once for not hitting his brake. He was speeding when he sees a cop coming from the other side. Figuring that he's screwed already, he did not hit his brakes and kept on going. The cop makes a U turn makes stops him. Cop tells him that, "I looked to see if you hit your brakes. If you had I was planning on just driving off, but since you didnt I had to pull you over" Moral of the story - Damned if you do, Damned if you dont. The moral could be 'dont speed', but I like the first one better.

Why should a thread be locked? We are talking of maximum br lights on/off... My opposite onetime experience was that I displayed my lights, and he did not turn around. Whatever way it happens, its cool to be in control - even it was false roo-feelin.

Brake light etc is a death serious business: blondie or drunkard kills ya - or maybe not if red flag raises between ears early enough...
Maxima brake lights where intensity only varies, are dangerous. Bright, Extra light is a must for long life.

My good friend, the cop, tells me that when he gets someone on radar, he's usually looking for that person to make some effort at "compliance" -- that is, if you make no effort to show the cop that you're attempting to slow down, he'll show you the error of your ways. If you show your brake lights, it means you got the message.
Oh, and disconnecting your brake lights can be construed as "Attempting to Elude a Police Officer" and carries a whole new level of fines and points. Follow the sage advice in this thread: brake lights are there for a reason, and disconnecting them will not get you out of a ticket.
