Anyone do a JDM Engine swap on 92 SE?

Considering doing a JDM swap on my 92 SE - anyone done one of these and are there any "gotchas" involved?? I know the engines are from Japan and there may be some differences - just want to get some feedback before I dive in....

I believe the crank angle sensor is different, but other than that, it's pretty much the same

I hope you're not expecting any more power from it because they are still rated at the same 190HP as the US version.

Mine has a JDM engine in it. Like MrGone said, read the stickies. Jeff and Keelan (spipedong90) are both very thorough with their information. Jeff did the work on mine and everything he did was top notch.

The cam position sensor, coil packs and some of the smog equipment are different. I also noticed that the IACV is a little different. I still have my JDM coil packs and they work fine, but Jeff swapped all of the other stuff I mentioned. In order to pass smog regs you will likely have to swap over your upper intake. If you have a 5-speed, you should do that anyway, to keep the power valve for the variable intake.

Another good idea is to replace everything that you can while the engine is out -- put in all new manifold studs, new seals, water pump and gaskets.

I don't have them, either, but if you have a 5-speed the variable intake is nice to keep with the car. Also, in the event you sell your car to someone that does have to go through DEQ, you might want to at least keep your smog equipment.

1990 Maxima ~ are the connecting rod bolts removable [how]/sold seperately? I've got a bad set on #5 rod due to being over torqued. The idiotic dealer who replaced the crank and bearings due to their mistake [as gone into in length prior] really screwed this up. That's the reason this rods bearing was making noise. They also stripped 4 pan bolts, left the chipped lower pully on it, 2 exhaust manifold bolts broken off, etc.... I hope I can replace these rod bolts in the car without having to remove the rear head to install a new rod.

Also: WHY can't I start new threads? I can't even search my posts to add on to the one I hijacked with this story.

Anyone know?

"They also stripped 4 pan bolts" ~ actually they're broke off too, not stripped.
