hot when idleing
i apologize if this has been asked here before, i searched but i might not be using the correct keywords.
my max starts to get very hot when idleing for >5 minutes, like if i'm waiting in line at a drive-thru for instance. It usually happens at night for some reason, when it's cooler. Once i get moving again, it cools back down to normal temperature pretty quickly.
Any ideas?

could be a number of different things. Probably needs a new thermostat or water pump, but it's hard to say.
Do your fans kick in when it gets hot? If not, maybe there is something wrong with your coolant temp sensor or wiring to it or the fans or wiring to the fans.
You could also have a clog somewhere. My brother had a Supra that got a radiator leak. He made the mistake of using "stop leak" in it. Well, the leak stopped, but it clogged up the bottom of the radiator and it ran very hot until he replaced the radiator. You might have rust doing the same type of thing.

your fans won't turn on until it gets hot. There is a fuse, but they also receive a signal from the coolant temp sensor -- when it gets to a certain temp, the sensor tells the fans to kick on.
they don't stay on all the time

A good way to test your fans is turn on the A/C. When the A/C is on, one of the two fans should be running to pull air through the condenser for the A/C. If you have the A/C on and no fans are going, start checking fuses. If the fuses all look ok, start checking (with the car off and fan unplugged) if the fans are frozen up.
Good luck!
