Size of Axle Locknut

I'm going to replace the right-hand side half-shaft since the CV boot cracked during the winter. Does anyone know the size of the locknut? 34mm?

Also, when the half-shaft is removed from the tranny, will there be any fluid leaking out? Just want to get prepared before I start. Again, this is for the passenger side.

I believe it is 36mm and I know Autozone will loan a socket for free.

yes, you need to drain the tranny before pulling out either axle or else it will drain out of that hole

and it is 36mm

Good luck removing the axle bolt if you don't have an impact wrench. Just broke the end off of my breaker bar a couple of hours ago trying to break these things loose. What a PITA.

The axle nut can be easily removed with simple hand tools. However, you will need quality hand tools of the proper size, not the cheap crap you get from ACE Hardware and the like. Below is a Craftsman 3/4" drive 1 7/16" socket, a 3/4" drive slide bar, and a 3/4" drive 5" extension. I use part of an old lamp when I need more leverage. Have a partner push the brake pedal to the floor, apply pressure, and viola! One loose axle nut. It truly is that simple. Be sure to torque it back to spec once your repair is complete. To tight or to loose equals premature wheel bearing failure.

3/4" drive, whoa hoho. That ish looks beastly. Simple 1/2" is all I needed.
