simple temperature gauge prob

need to know!! I have just recently been having some probs with my temperature gauge in the dash board console. when driving on a occasion the meter drops to zero or low, by itself. But if i tap the plastic it jumps right back to the appropriate temp. I guess this has happened due the bass from my system??!! lol What should i look for?

Don't flatter urself, it has nothing to do with bass.

Our temp gauges just go bad like that. Wait till it starts spiking beyond hot, heh. The whole gauge needs to be replaced, like mine.

can you just add a water temp gauge? how hard is that to do and where do you put the sensor?

Like therealgoon9 said, its not a huge problem. You should be able to tell if your car is overheating if its steaming. If you feel you have to fix it then your local mechanic could probably do something to it to fix it.

How difficult is it to replace the temp gauge? Mine is experiencing the same problem as the gauge goes to zero when I am driving.

Check first that your temp sensor connector (6.), wiring is ok. While problem is acute, measure sensor resistance.

Replacement is easy; Craigs page and/or manual. Check Favorite links at left:

where do you hook up the probes to because i have the same problem and when i hook up the probes to read resistance, i get OL. which means too much resistance but i m probably not putting them in the right place.

Always theres a reading between temp sensor pin and ground (housing). Max 3k=3000 Ohms, min 200 Ohms. For your dash gauge to work, this same resistance must be seen at gauge (ign off) if harness ok.

OL is out of limit, which normally means no connection at all

can t OL also mean if the resistance is too high for the meter to read?

i just replaced mine 5 minutes ago because the connector was so coroded the wiring just broke off. it would intermitently work if i went over a bump. its coverered in what's supposed to be a rubber weatherproof boot. with all the heat under the engine compartment it turned to plastic, allowed moisture in and voila. before you go and change the sensor check the connector
