'04 engine/tranny..what will it take?

Came across an '04 engine and 6spd tranny for a killer deal. My question is what will it take to get it in a 3rd gen? I know new motor mounts are most likely and axles. I am guessing the whole car will have to be rewired for the ECU and other engine connections as well. So if this package cost me $2k, I wonder what the other costs associated with an install such as this would run. I did meet someone who put an '04 engine in a '99, so I am pretty sure it is possible.

Timing belt change is creeping up in 6k miles, not looking forward to it...

This is just my opinion so take it for whatever. IMHO, anyone who has to ask
http://forums.maxima.org/showpost.ph...8&postcount=27
shouldn't attempt something 10x as difficult and expensive. But again, that's just me and this could be totally out of the logical ballpark.

BTW. I'm getting the rings redone. Early next week. I'll ask that you return the ones I sent. Should only be a few $ if that to mail back.

if you can get that for 2k, then find a shell somewhere for a car it would fit in.

If you are able to do this kind of work, you should be able to answer these kinds of questions yourself. Just by looking at your engine bay and looking at the engine you want to swap, you should be able to figure this out on your own.

My advice to anyone considering any kind of engine swap (except the same kind of engine that is in your car now): DO NOT ask questions about it here. You will get flamed. Just do the work and when you get finished post pictures. Don't even update anything along the way.

I never understood why ppl get flamed for remarkable mechanical ventures.

Why not just let em try peacefully and MAYBE it might work out.

Eh waste of time, no one ever hears any sence here.

Ironic that you would talk about "sence" but not be able to spell it correctly. People get flamed for "remarkable mechanical ventures" b/c they are bullshiters and everyone knows it. This guy hasn't even purchased any parts. He just wants to talk. Same for every other "turbo my car" or "swap a motor" thread.

Another reason people get flamed here is b/c this forum is moderated and visited by people with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to properly turbo a Maxima and or perform an engine swap. That makes it quite simple for them to smell BS from a mile away. There are also people who have successfully installed a turbo in their Maxima. It took dozens of hours of hard work, $$$$, and ingenuity. That makes them reluctant to give away their work to the first teenage jerkoff who trolls through and wants to play too, especially when you can tell they aren't serious.

Finally, 3rdGen Maximas are not your dumb friend's Honda Civic. Motor swaps are not a dime a dozen, parts are not readily available. You people, thread starter included, talk like a 3rdGen motor swap is something that you do in afternoon. That alone displays your ignorance.

In conclusion, put up or shut the hell up. It is that simple.

Go ahead and read my post again.

If you can do it -- great. Don't talk about it until it's done. I won't flame anyone who actually does a turbo or VQ engine swap. The rest is just someone running their mouth.

Now a thread asking if 5th gen axles will fit into 3rd gen spindles, thats different because now they have shown they might know what the hell they are doing, have the ability to understand how all this crap works. But all of these worthless "what will it take" "can it fit" why even bother being serious, there is no way it is ever going to happen. Hell I should just tell DA-MAX I'll ban him if he doesn't do the 'stillen kit' reply :mamoru:
