Tire Pressure

Got a quick question guys. How much should the tire pressure be for a maxima? I know that 29 psi is the recommended pressure, but does tire brands ( specs) make a difference? The reason I asked is because my tires look kinda under inflated on 29 psi (tire is rated for 44 psi max), and wanted to know if this will lead to premature tire wear. Also, after checking my tire pressure, all 4 had different pressures, 25 psi, 27 psi, 26psi, 35 psi. I think this is what led to my vibration problem at high speeds, but will know for sure when I take it back on the highway.

Yeah, a 10psi difference between tires is not good. I assume you have stock-sized tires? I think I ran 32 psi front, 30psi rear on my stock tires and it felt pretty good. Tire brand makes a slight difference as a softer sidewall means you should up the pressure a tad if you want to maintain a nice solid feel.

Yeah I have stock-sized tires. currently I am running 30-31 psi and will probably keep that. I brought this up because whenever I have had to get my oil changed or a flat fixed, the peeps working there will always go for 35 psi or above. By the way, why are you running 32 psi front, 30psi rear? Any real benefit to that?

32 psi is the standard. Unless you had low profiles.

my front tires have a max of 51 PSI but I dont have enough quarters to fill my tires to the max or near it. How much would be good to invest in a air compressor for home use? Walmart has a cheap $30 one or something from shucks they have pretty nice looking ones.

29psi for a 44psi rated tire is low. I'd up it to 36-38psi, you'll also get better mileage. An overinflated tire will lead to premature wear rather than underinflated. I'm running 36psi front and 40psi rear on low profile.

Yeah, now that you mention it, 29psi is kinds low. At 35 psi the tire looks like it is properly inflated. At 29 psi it looks under inflated. I just didnt know if going above 29 psi was OK since recommended pressure is what most tire care websites point to as the correct pressure. My dad once had a tire that blew on him on the highway and his car turned over a number of times. He was lucky to get out alive, so I am a little more careful about tires.

over or under inflating a tire will cause premature tire wear

A tire can blow due to a number of reasons.

Recommended pressure is like many other recommended specs that is not necessarily best for a certain purpose like tire wear. Just like your factory alignment specs are best for safety but they're not best for handling.

Running at 29 for 4 years now on all different types of tires. Being hi performance tires they wear out pretty quick to start with. Although they look underinflated, they ride just fine for me (only 16"s though, normal profile), and no odd wear patterns toward end of tire life.
