noise
noise
I finally got around to making a recording of the noise that my car makes. I just need someone to host the 2 meg file for me. let me know. I'd like to get down to where this noise is, and since you guys know my car better than I do maybe its....

To pinpoint the location, use s***hoscope: place screwdriver on suspected locations like cam cover, sensor, place ear on handle.
Hmm. Autoeditor cannot cope with s***hoscope = s-t-e-t-h-o-s-c-o-p-e
My car has been acting the same way
machanic says its oil pump and timing chains but most machanics dont know what there dealing with
dunno if that would help IM me and ill send you a vid of my car making the same sounds maxedoutmaxima

some people think its a lifter, some poeople think its an exhaust leak. now that was just at idle... if im accelerating the car you can hear it going up as the rpms go up as well. driving me nuts. I really don't want to replace a bunch of parts if i don't have to. I'll tryu that scope thingy out and see where i go.
finding its location is very hard, it looks like its coming from the front of the engine underneath. Now here is the ***** and a half
the noise went away while i was testing it. I kept reving my engine to see if i could get closer. Then I took it for a test drive and the noise seemed to not even happen while I was driving away. This happens a lot, but I've never gotten it to go away by revving the engine so much while examining the engine bay. I came back to the engine bay once more and the noise was completely gone. BTW. I don't have a st_et-hoscope, and place to buy one cheap?

For my ears, the sound source seem to be lightweight. Echo around makes such hard to pinpoint, like locust...
Howabout the exhaust wraparound metal? Try touching all components all around while the noise is on. Still the noise has clearly a rpm relation, not so much resonant as external attachements could have...
thanks wiking... that screw driver idea is really neat. I Saw my dad doing it once but didn't really think much of it. Anywho the noise doesnt seem to be coming from any internal parts, but as i put my ear closer to the engine in the front, it got much longer, so it sounds like its in the lower front of the engine....*shrug* guess when im doing my exhaust I'll get a better inspection of it.

Anyways anybody reading this: listen to your engine now, and youll know what is normal - just for future reference. Its really neat how u can pinpoint a noise source, then figure out (from manual) the engine part responsible. Theres no way stealer$ship can rip-charge MAF'$ from u; IF u are willing to kneel down over u horse stable an listen what they want to tell u... (=noisy problems)
This is easy on stationary engine, but chassis/speed related problems need a microphone attached to chassis. Move it from place to place and try repeat your noisy problem, until u have the mic on the sweet spot. Then figure out whattodo: Intermittent chassis and resonances need just to bend a supporting metal sheet/bracket, and/or glue in a weight.
