fellow 3rd gens with 15" subs...

can i see pictures of your boxes? i'm having a hell of a time trying to come up with the right enclosure size to fit the trunk's opening.

i figured i'd post this here so i can get 3rd gen specific audio setups.

thanks in advance!

I don't have a 15" sub, but if you are having trouble, maybe you could remove the back seat and the metal bar, then slide it in through the back. The way the trunk opening is, it's difficult to get bulky things into it. My enclosure is a huge PITA to take out, as it barely fits.

umm... I never measured it. I only have one 12" Eclipse Aluminum, but the place made me a deal on a chambered box, since the box (not the sub) was from a demo that they had sold to someone.

Mine fits through the trunk, but it's kind of tight. The box really isn't that big, but since it wasn't custom made, the dimensions aren't the best for getting into a Maxima trunk.

Now I have it centered and secured -- I took that pic when I first got it.

I just thought yours might fit through the rear. I recently had my interior out of the car and I realized that there is a lot of room back there.

i'll try tomorrow to see if the mockup i made will fit thru the rear seat opening.

Build the box in pieces INSIDE the trunk.
L brackets are your friends.

Very nice.

What was wrong with that one?

It looks like it was built well and tuned to your liking.

yeah, that's the last option if we run out of other ones. it will be a big pain in the rear trying to secure the port channels and what-not on the box from inside the car.

oh man

this has been quite the battle for me as well...

ive got a mag 15 (SI for those of you who arent aware) that was in 3.2 cubes at 32 hz and that was a PITA.

i never thought about the rear seat bar removal idea...

anyone ever get into the 4 cubes ported region with a 15? maybe 28 hz? i could use some ideas other than those in the sticky in the audio section...

the new magnum is coming soon, too...this is going to drive me nuts.

I believe about the only way you're going to achieve your dream is to build 2 ends of the box, and use the natural molding for the other walls.

You would have tons of box area if you ran a sheet right under the opening of the trunk, moulding up against the taillight area and wheel wells. And then putting another piece right behind the passenger seat.

Place the subs on the portion facing up. Basicly using your whole trunk. Who needs that space anyway. Just pick yourself up a truck like I did. And then charge your friends when they want to borrow it.

I think you need the height of the box to be about 15." You can use angle iron and alot of bolts to make a two piece box. Just wrap carpet around the edges and space the two pieces of angle iron about 1/4" apart to seal the box together. Like this JL. The J represents a piece of angle iron and so does the L. I'll go take some pictures of my two piece 5 cu ft (including the port) band pass box with one eclipse aluminum 15

to the guy with the full size spare..did you have it in the wheel well or what? I've been driving around town without one and not worrying (worst case scenario, free tow) My donut doesn't work on my car without the foglight / front end dragging on the road...bad bad bad I usually toss a 15" spare in the back seat for roadtrips.
Need to toss a 15" spare in the trunk and forget about it..

minimum height has to be more than 15"...or else there's not enough wood for the mounting screws to bite into near the edges of the basket. pics of your box would be cool

I believe it's 15 1/2" tall. The 6x9's barely fit.

I just ordered two more us amps, tube amps. Ones a tu-600 [(2x150@4ohms and 2x300@2ohms) it's for the 7" focal utopia midbass drivers] and one more tu-4360 [(4x75@4ohms) it's for the 6 1/2" focal utopia audiom mids and the a/d/s px concept tweets]. The tu-4360 that's in there will be used for the rear and the center.

I'm in the process of making fiberglass door panels for the focals. They are coming out really nice.

Right now I just have some rainbow pro van kick 6 1/2" mids with the a/d/s tweets on an audiocontrol active 4-way crossover.

I just threw it all in there for now so the install doesn't look the greatest.
