fellow 3rd gens with 15" subs...
It's mounted at roughly the same angle as the back seat and it barely fits. If I went with less of an angle it wouldn't fit because of the height of the box (I believe the o.d. of the 15 is 16.5". If I went with more of an angle the magnet and/or basket would hit the bottom of the box. I also had to mount the sub so that the logo was at a 45 degree other wise the basket would hit the bottom of the box. I belive your sound splinter has a very similar basket and you would have the same problem if you made the front of the box angled.
Before I built this box, I had the 15 in a 1.5 cu. ft. box. It was a square box and it would fit perfectly (standing up with the 15 facing backwards) between the stock 6x9's and the bottom of the trunk. The reason it won't do that now is because the 15 is inside a box made out of 3/4" birch which add 1 1/2" to the height and the back of the new box has to proped up another 3/4" to to match the angle of the back seat (the fuel pump/gas tank area sticks up a bit)

pic of the RL-p's basket. basically your general 4 spoke Venzula layout.
so essentially the box was made into two large halves...and assembled inside the trunk? any issues with the port channel lining up properly?

The port lines up perfectly.
It looks like this on the inside from the top view...
( sub
< fiberglass
] wood (part of port)
= port ( the part you see comining through the armrest hole)
(<]=
If I didn't do this, the sub would be firing directly into the port and it would sound like ****.
The box is actually 5 pieces. removable top (to remove the woofer), 2 removable pieces of the port, the front, and the back

Most peaple don't think a bandpass box can be used for sq. The guy who helped me design my box is the owner of the best stereo shop in abq and he has won quite a few iasca sq competitions back in the day with a similar set up.

Btw... this setup has very clean bass, but will still hurt your ears, eyes, throat... etc etc.

It better do more than 140s...
my old school pair of 12W6s on an Orion 225HCCA punched out 149 and that was ten years ago.
I was hitting 137 in the Maxima with three 10w6s on a PPI A600.2 when I was doing IASCA stuff...

You can see how tall the box was here... I think it was 17". I of course wasn't running rear speakers since I was going for SQ and didn't care.

A couple other pics of the box while I was building it.. (at first, I had the subs facing forward, but didn't like it..)
http://blehmco.com/pics/old_max/car_stereo/subs/
that box was 3.2 cu ft internal volume, WITH the cutout for the stupid weight in the trunk. I didn't realize you could take it out until after I built the box.. Originally designed it to be able to port it and run some ports vertically through the rear deck speaker holes, but wound up filling the box with chunks of styrofoam to bring it down to 2.0 cu ft internal because I liked how they sounded with sealed ports better.

Ok... the results are in.
After reviewing the old score of 147.6, there was a contreversy. The mic they where using was an old one. (they can't remember the name of the company) Plus they were having trouble that day as well with the meter. So the actual score for the old one was around 139-140. Still not bad for a SQ setup.
For the new setup. I have 3 different scores for you
The official from the competition is 146.2 (not at all pleased)
The tuning from mobile FX was 146.7 (before compeition
My own tuning and song after the compeition 147.1
All scores are with a brand new TL mic (less than 1 week old out of the box) On the passenger floor board.
I'm not happy with the compeition score. Came in 5th, but not last. I couldn't get it to hit like my buddy in Mobile FX. But you should have seen his face when I topped that 147 mark after the compeition.
IDK Y, but he was saying that my setup was working the best with the 60hz range. I tried using that same area during the comp and failed miserably. But I came back with my woofer excursion test track that sweeps from 60hz-20hz. I broke the 147 mark somewhere around 32 hz. Box is supposedly tuned for 29hz.
What I have learned from this adventure... I need the new 1100D amp soon. There's another compeition next month. Don't think I will be there though. But the JL Escalade is supposed to be up there next weekend. I'll poke in for that though.
Well it's been a long day. There was a lot more going on than just that. Most of it stuff I'm not allowed to discuss.

so 146.7 eh? not bad for 500 watts
seems like ported boxes are louder 4 or 5 Hz above the tuning frequency of the box. that may explain why your score peaked around the low 30s. my brahma was in a box tuned to 28, but the damn thing was stupidly loud around 34-35 Hz.

Yeah not bad for 490 watts
That was measured as well after the competition. with the settings I used for it.
And that's 490 split between 4 12" subs. I think I pushed a little past 500 watts when I was doing that 147.1 after the competition. Wasn't really watching the voltmeter.
It was a fun... and at least I wasn't last. There was a s10 extreme that hit 140.2
I felt so sorry for that guy. And he was the 1st one.

nice choice on the sub...
what's that box tuned to?
how the heck did u get it in? 16" tall was too much to get mine into the trunk....
edit: how is that 3.5 cubes? that's counting port area?

The dimensions he's showing is about 4.5 cubes and looks to be using 3/4" MDF as everyone else...
that comes to internal dimensions (with port) of 3.57 cubes.
about the same size as my box, but mine sat farther back (forward) in the trunk because of the sloped front on it.
