window reg ques
today myy front driver window died and fell into the door. does this happen everytime a window regulator dies. my back one is broken but the window didnt go into the door, it stayed up.
Steel wires keep it up. When it goes haywire, obviously it drops down as hay has no such strenght.
Rear door: motor, elec wirings, dataline dead...

When this happened to me, I used the broken wire, jammed it around a screw and tightened the screw. This held the window up until my Ebay regulator arrived.
Others have used duct tape...the most versatile item known to man.

I second the duct tape idea. Did that when my front passenger side regulator died a few years ago and am currently using tape on my rear driver side window as the regulator died a few days ago. I think Brain (internetautomart) has pretty good prices on the regulator. I will be getting in touch with him soon for my regulator.

My driver door window dropped so hard, I am a bit surprised the glass didn't break.
My rear driver side one just slid down slowly (but woudn't move up). This happened when I was in between runs (drag racing) and I used some electrical tape to hold it up until I got a regulator.
These are common failures in our cars and I guess it just depends on how the wires get twisted and the plastic pulleys get broken.

just incase anybody needs it in an emergency situation i've had 3 windows held up for 2 yrs by securing the window assembly to wire that pulls it up and lets it down... hard to explain here are pics: http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~jtdubach/orgpics/reg1

all i did was secure it using some steel wire wound tightly around teh braided puller wire.
it was ment to be a temporary fix but turned into a permantent one since they havent let me down(no pun intended) yet.

just take the door panel off, and right around the middle of the door will be a column(so that when pulled, the glass will come up evenly, which is the stock location for the regulator also), what he did was tied steel wires to the glass support right underneath the glass and then ran the wire all the way up, then just pull the wire up, then wrap the wire around the door handle when he need the windows to close. Also, to open, just unhook the wire, and let gravity do its thing.
Don't be a cheap azz. Just fork over the $60 for a new regulator. I know most of you spend more than $60 on PS2 games and Taco Bell every month.
It takes about an hour tops to swap out and then you can actually roll your windows up and down.

oh, got ya, I got that idea from the way your pictures looks, I guess I better look closer next time, but hey, both way would works, one being more of a craptacular fix i.e. mine.
