Skyline Tails

If I wanted to put some Skyline tails on my Max, do I need to look for R33 tail lights? Also, is there any modding or re wiring that needs to be done in order to make the new lights fit and work? I've looked on eBay and they don't really have that many Skyline R33 tails at all, anywhere else they might sell them?

well unless you're driving a skyline...there's no effin way those tails will fit in your maxima w/o any major modfications.

Max tails look better, IMO..I'd say it would be more worthwhile to swap to 92-94 SE or GXE tails.

How do the 92-94 tails look different than a 90's tails?

Whats considered major?

R33 has been done...
R34 has been done....

If you can do body work... By that I mean weld, bondo, fabricate, it won't be a problem. I think the r34s look muuuuuch better.

If you know anything about plastic. You CAN take you stock tails, Strip the lenses and fabricate skyline lenses into the, I donno if dual lenses on each will work. Almost sure it won't. Then mold a new clear lense.

If you have tools and know how to use them, i's not too hard. Just reeeeealy time consuming to gt them right. I'm still not done. Here's an idea of the fabcrivcation involved.

I actauly never did any body work till i got this car. I shaved my door handles and felt brave enough to do my tails....

The newer tails didn't have the chrome strip across the top nor the white turn signal bar that went all the way across. Not a huge difference, to be sure, but I'd say the newer look is a big improvement.

did i say that it's never been done before?

not everyone wants to do body work. not everyone wants to cut their qtr panels into strips and bondo it back together. it's pretty clear if the orig poster can do that...he/she wouldn't be asking the question if there was modding involved.

so you can bondo your car, you think everyone should too?

No, I was trying to be helpful. Give a lil heads up in whats involved. I don't think everyone should do it. If they want to or consider it, thats cool.

....I dodn't bondo the strips together, I added metal and welded it.

yes you can be helpful...but it's very clear that the orig poster doesn't want to cut and weld here. if they are then they wouldn't be asking what modding is involved. so i would consider that as major modification.

added metal and welded it? got pics of the welded metal phase? all i see is you cutting the strips of metal..then next pics i see is bondo in the qtr. i don't have xray vision...i call it like i see it.

i like that smiley...but i like these better...

So, anyway... are there pics posted anywhere of that R34 conversion? I've seen the R33, but would really like to see how the R34 tails look on a 3rd gen.

I wasn't aware of any max with a r34 conversion. Anyway, the choice of a r32, r33 or r34 depends on your taste really. I personally like r33 lights best, that's why I installed them. Here you have a direct comparison of the three..

http://www.importpartsusa.com/ipusa-jdm-nissan.html

It also has to do with the body style, I think r32 would not fit well due to their narrow design. Expect to spend between $500 and $1500 on the conversion. $500 if you get used tails and do it yourself (pain in the *** and easy to **** up), $1500 if you buy new ones and have someone else do it. It cost me about $800 in total.

There's a dude here in atlanta with a maroon turbo VE. He's got the r34's an the xenon e36's. I havn't seen in for months... The conversion loooked tight. And it's CREEEPy how hot it looks at night. The tails have REALLY deep red glow.
