some advice

Ok people, here it is. I'm trying to make a very hard decision. My 3rd gen now has 193,000 miles. I want to keep her but should I invest more money into her or should buy another one. Here's the problems:

----Three windows needs regulators
-----Need a new oil pan gasket
------Need to replace bose speakers (all of them, I have replacements already)
-------Need new doors they are starting to rust badly

The rest of the car is in very good shape. Most of the internal parts have been replaced. including all brakes , master cyclinder, abs control, bushings, trans, and a host of other things.

I have some pics of the exterior any ideas please let me know. I don't wanna part with her but I do want to fix her up with out it being to expensive. I will post some pics later today.

Here is one link to the one of the doors.

well, I'm not an expert, but if thats all that is wrong with your car. I say keep it. Because I've gone through a lot more in my car and I still have it. I don't even want to begin listing either. a free car turned into a really expensive machine . Anywho, 3 regulators will be about 50 bucks a piece, if you do the labor yourself. not too bad. you already have new speakers, throw them in! a gasket can't be too hard to replace... can it? like I Said, I'm not an expert but the problems you have seems pretty nice compared to mine... then again my engine has about 70k miles on it, and the rest of the car has 170k. so *shrug*

- You look nice. (=no door pics)
- Check the chassis for the rust recall -like issues; decide after that. Heres on this forum is a good thread of the rust issue, find it; also check end of page http://www.cardomain.com/ride/748507/17 ...Your other issues: daily bread for a car owner.
- Doors can be bought from junkyard
- Try tightenin pan bolts first; they tend to loose

And another thing. Just in case after I fix her up and the engine should fail. How much does a new engine cost for the maxima and would I have to replace other things as well? I would love to replace with a faster engine and a nicer exhaust system. Can ya'll give me an estimate on what kinda money this will cost.

If you're doing mechanical and body work yourself then keep it,
If not,I would sell for something in better shape with less miles.

hmm... that looks like ALOT of body work, the rust is everywhere and all the ay through in some places. 193,000 miles, oyu might get another 100k out of her only if he was taken care of. id say keep it until it dies or until you find another max for around $1000 for less mileage and better shape. that is what i would do. i think it would be too much work. id say keep her until death do you part, but thats just me. seems like t oo mush work for what it is worth, you can find decent 3rd gen for under $1000 i got mine for $1000 with 125k on her

just like mine too....after I got my 'hand me down' car...i had to "replace the engine" which i strongly think i got ripped off! sucks coz i didn't know about this forum prior to taking it to the mechanics.

anyways.....i'll go with what they are saying. Also, yours are 'minor stuff' compared to the things i still need to work on my car...but i like working on it....so i'm keeping mine till it dies.
