please help:another temp gauge prob.-long

i installed a summit 3 gauge panel in my dash pocket at first( water temp, volts, oli press). everyting worked except the water temp. i made a t at the throttle body and bypassed it with brass fittings. at the t is an adapter that is a little larger and the temp sensor goes there. after installing it it only read 84 max. so i checked the wwiring and switched the sensor. it still read 84. i returned everything and got a 2 gauge pillar pod and installed autometer water temp gauge and volts. again i only read 84. i grounded the auto meter gauge in the cabin near the fuse panel instead of in the engine bay. i dont think this is the problem caues i consisltly read 84 even when the car is heated. i bled the air form the t. did anyone ever have any problems like this? anything you can think of to help?
