Hey guys, I was hoping someone could help me out on this one. Just swapped out the motor in our 1990 maxima (dead cylinder) and now a couple of things are happening...

1. The temperature guage is not working (yes, it is hooked up)
2. When I turn the ignition switch to on and then turn it off, the oil and check engine lights stay on even if I remove the key. They never turn off.

After the car is started, the lights go off, and stay off after I turn off the car. I've check the ECU, and get nothing but the standard 0505, which I believe means no codes.

I've attempted to search, but I keep getting some out of memory error.

I'm thinking this is something simple that one of you will know right off
Keeping my fingers crossed here

Thanks

first off, 55 is the all clear code, not 0505.
secondly, in order to search you need to be a donating member ($20) on the org.

check all your fuses. check that none of the wires on any of the harneses are pinched (grounding out). You may have a faulty oil pressure switch, I think you can do a simply continuity test to see it its bad, use a multimeter and unplug the pressure switch, put it in continuity mode, touch the pin on the switch with one probe and the other probe to the engine (anything unpainted metal), if you get continuity then the oil switch should get replaced.

As you can see, I am a donating maxima.org member...

I swapped out the oil pressure switch yesterday with the one off the old motor, and am still experiencing the problem.

I'm guessing you crimped a wire somewhere when you put in the motor.

just my thought... there's a million mistakes you can do when swapping an engine.

I'll take a look at it again and make sure there aren't any wires pinched. Is there any difference between a 1990 motor and a 1994 motor... any sensors that need to be switched out?

as a rule of thumb, I always use the sensors off the old motor. that way I know they're right.

I do way to many motor swaps
