Lock doesn't go all the way up.

My car recently has been having a problem with the locks. When i turn the key the lock does not come all the way up, but without noticing ill pull the handle and my factory alarm will go off. The real problem is that i cant get the alarm to shut off because my lock is f ---ed. I was considering getting the lock mechanism replaced. Does this sound like a good idea, and how much do you think that might cost?

Door Locks and Alarm Shut Off

Yep. My 1993 Maxima SE started doing almost the same thing at about 100K miles. The owners manual says the only way to turn off the alarm (anti-theft system), is to put the key in the truck lock and unlock the trunk. This does, in fact, work, but it is a hassle. I'm doing some research now on how I can disconnect the anti theft system.

a related problem...

I have just started having a similar problem with my max. For some reason now, the power locks don't work. I can unlock the drivers door with my key (the lock goes all the way up) but the second turn of the key doesn't unlock all the doors like it used to. And it also refuses to let me lock the doors from the inside or outside, they just bounce back up. Has anyone else had this problem?

My second turn of the key unlocks them all when it feels like it, and locks all doors when I lock the driver door when it feels like it as well. It's a definite hassle when all are open and you've gotta reach around and lock them all separately.

Now what's real weird is that I have two keys - one locks/unlocks the drivers door ONLY, and the other just starts the car. If my solenoid for the trunk ever failed I'd be in trouble.

I'd pull the ignition lock and get it rekeyed

My passenger front power lock has always been like that (5 years): in 30% cases it would only pop up half way, irritating my wife. A couple days ago I was lubricating the window regulators and also put some litium grease on whatever moving parts of the power lock in that door. Let's see what happens.

It could be a bad door lock actuator. Find one at the wreckers and replace it.

its the piece connected to the door lock actuator. I just went through this on my car. I'm not sure what its called, but I sprayed a **** load of wd40. I Was told that wd40 isn't great for lubrication. If you have the part out and you're you test the locking mechanism it clicks hard going up. Maybe some of that lithium grease will help who knows. Mine still has the problem
