I got my 92 SE 5spd up to 140 a number of nights ago on a perfect straightaway. Just how fast will these cars go? Mine was at a 140 at redline in 4th gear.

I've never drove my car past 75mph. At 75mph I feel like a high performance driver. One time I tried to go up to 80mph but I felt it was very dangerous so I only got up to around 74mph or so. But 75mph is the fastest I have ever gone.

MMmmmm.... taller gear ratios in 4th gear. I miss that on my old auto. You can notice the difference in RPM's between yours and mine. Mine is above 4.5k while in 5th. This equals bad gas mileage. Damn maxima.. Wish it had a 6-speed with a really tall last gear and then I would be happy with good fuel efficiency.

I really wish they would have put a better speedometer in the 89-91 maximas, I have no idea what the fastest I have had my car up to is cause the thing gets burried while I am still in 4th gear, so I can only guess at somewhere in the mid 130's to 140.

i did 115 and it felt more stable then at 65. maybe its just me but i think when it goes that fast it just pulls itself straight, i never noticed but the numbers printed on the speedo are different on se and gxe(pics above)

I don't know about y'all, but that seems pretty dangerous. I will go as fast as the Racetrack I am on allows but in the real world, 90 is as fast as I want to go, to many variables outta my control. Plus I live in Seattle, Rain, and oil slicks, and pot holes all over the place. I just don't want to do it. I would love to feel what 140 is like, but only on a legally sanctioned raceway.

I want to be in the paper in the business section for making my millions, not on the last page in the obituary section.

110, 115, 120mph

Theirs a bridge which connects St. Petersburg with Tampa n everyone just hauls on it. 7 miles long, 5 lanes wide on both sides, n S/L of 75mph. I guess no one sees those signs cuz they be going 85/90mph. (Including myself)
N E wayz, after a long night of hittin Ybor I just wanna get home n Zzzz. Im on the bridge n my foot just starts getting heavy. I then notice my speedo clocking 110, then 115, n finally 120 mph. I then manage to pull my foot off the accelerator, n dont hit 125. I dont bother cuz I have a Vg n it'll only do 125mph. Oh well I shouldn't be speeding N E ways.

Re: 110, 115, 120mph

I have not gone over 100mph since my 90 max. One of these days Ill try out this SP9000s. Doing 85-90mph in the rain they grip like dry but in any sand or mud forget it

You guys are ****ing nuts!!! I just showed this to my dad and my brother, they are both cracking up, my brother was very impressed but my dad is like OMG, these are the guys you hang out at those meets with?

Are these photoshopped? My dad and my bro are both amused by the daredevil maneuver of taking a pic while going just about double most speed limits

LOL... Both mine and Matt's pics are 100% REAL.

[**Disclaimer:] We do not encourage speeding on public roadways. These pics were taken on a closed roadcourse with professional drivers. [/end Disclaimer]

You were probably going in the mid-high 120s. maybe a tad over 130, but not much...

Then again, I've had my auto clocked at 143 by a cop before...
And yes, that pic was 100% real. I think I took that particular one on the way back form a dallas meet. I've had a few others that actually indicated faster speed, but can't find them.

that being said, Don't use this thread as an excuse to try to meet or beat those speeds. This is VERY dangerous, and you risk killing yourself and anyone near you if you happen to wreck at those speeds. a blowout WILL cause a fatal crash, not just a new bumper.
Both Nevin's and my car are highly modded- mine had ALL the suspension goodies on it, including Z rated tires. Don't even think of attempting this on a stock Maxima with "regular" tires.

**** ATTENTION EVERYONE READING THIS THREAD ****

PLEASE DO NOT GO OUT AND TRY TO TOP OUT YOUR SPEEDOMETER. THERE IS NO COMPETITION TO SEE WHO CAN GO THE FASTEST. EVERYBODY KNOWS 140 MPH IS ACHIEVABLE WITH VG'S AND VE'S. I STRONGLY URGE THAT YOU DO NOT GO OUT WITH A CAMERA TRYING TO TAKE PICS OF YOU GOING 120+MPH. IT'S TOO DANGEROUS. I WOULD HATE TO HEAR OF A FELLOW MAX OWNER DYING BECAUSE OF A TOP SPEED RUN. I ASK THAT EVERYONE PLEASE DRIVE SAFELY. THANK YOU.

~Nevin

P.S. Sorry I had to write that in caps but I felt it was very important.

I have gone 150 in my car... I should take a picture next time I go that fast. Anyways the speedo needle was so wrapped that it was closer to zero than 145. At high speeds the speedo gets a little optimistic about speeds, so the way I knew I was going 150 was that I was at 6300 RPM in fifth. By the way don't try it with an engine with 150K miles on it; just a hint from experience. Don't you all wish you had VE's?????

i did 143 in my auto! too bad i didnt think to take a picture. it could have done more, but the stock suspension felt really sloppy, and i didnt want to risk it.

Ok, so the Se's have white gauges? Is that correct? I am trying to get a 92-93 maxima that my cousin owns. I wanted to know how you tell what cars have a VE or Vg engine? Besides looking under the hood... I know this car has white gauges is all...

I have a '86 maxima now (Gotten it to 115 )

This is the first time I have read the 3rd Gen forum! I need to get my *** out of the 5th gen forum and realize where I am at... what I drive...
