Fuse and brake light problem

I did a search and found an unanswered thread for this exact issue. Hopefully someone has some ideas.

I'm having an issue where my brake light on the dash is on all the time. I had everything regarding the brakes checked with no issues found. Well, recently, my dashboard lights stopped working and only come on when I press the brakes. I went to check the fuse for the rear lights as they would not come on at all either, and noticed the fuse was blown. I replaced the fuse but it blew again within a few seconds. I can't drive the car at night unfortunately due to the lack of interior lights and rear lights (before braking). Any ideas on something to check?

TIA!

Electrical issues are hard to diagnose on the internet, but i would check all wiring going to and from rear lights for broken or pinched wires, and it might be a good idea to change all the bulbs for the brake lights.

But if you need the car back road worthy quickly I would take it to a reputable shop. They should have the tools to diagnose the problem fairly quick...

Oh one more thing...If the fuse is blowing When you step on the brake then i would say the brake light switch on the pedal might be bad....Not sure though...

I am experiencing the same issue.

The brake and battery lamp on my 93 SE are on constantly. There is a blown fuse under the dash marked "engine control". Replacing this fuse lasts only moments. Removing the "bulb check" relay under the hood causes the lamps to go out, but of course does not fix it.

The alternator has been replaced with no success. Any clues?

That's a great idea. I'll try that.

BTW, all other systems are functioning as they should, including brake lights.

thanks for the help. I'm going to look at the wiring back there in more detail when I get a chance.
