Help! Lost Key AT locked

Hi All

OK, I lost the only key to my 89 Max at least until I can find the other one. I know! dumbarse. Anyway, cops say I have to move it from out front my house, which I can do by pushing it into my driveway but I was here at work thinking I need to put the key in to unlock the shifter to put it into N. Is there a way to override the locking mechaism so that I can shift into N without the key? Help!!! I need to move it tonite or it will get impounded.

Thanks

Beerguy

Just call a towing service and have them put it in your driveway..$50 to do that or a couple hundred to get it out of impound....

Thanks...that's plan B, actually have AAA towing so I can use that, however, I have to believe there is some sort of override for that locking mechanism. I am going to sell the car for junk (as soon as I can find the key) so I guess I could dismantle the steering column and try to disengage it that way but I was hoping there was some switch on the console shifter that I could simply override. Any other suggestions please advise.

Tks

Thanks Redline...that's huge

So I just pull up the console shroud and I should be able to see it?

Thanks again

No, it is in plane sight. Look on the back of your shifter. It is at the bottom inbetween the shifter and your center console. Just push down on it and shift at the same time.

Thanks. How much do you want for it? I may end up just selling or donating this vehicle as is (or selling it for salvage). It's pretty beat up. Local Nissan delearship was unable to get the code for the key from the VIN number.

Tks

Jeff

That may make some sense, depending on my options. I will be in touch. Thanks for the help (and reasonable offer on the set)

first ziptied keys under Ford control arms, now keys found under floormats. People keep on coming up with all kind of creative ways to store spare keys eh? what next? one ziptied to the fuel rail? lol

anyway, congrats on finding your key.
