I can understand

I wasn't about to mess with Jeffys seat though . Terry (Blackwind) got in and was messing around with the Bimmers seat and steering wheel, luckily I just had to push my seat button and walla! back to my position a few seconds later

That jl install on the bmw looks REALLY nice. I bet it sounds good too. My favorite jl subs are the w6 v2's.

Ugh dealing with the DMV is a pain. Sean and I couldn't get together for the exchange. I have to take care of the inspection with the state patrol. Looks like it takes 60 days or something to get an appointment. What a pain. Hang in there Sean, I'll get this done asap. I'll let you know the date of the inspection so you can get an idea when we can finish this

Dang, Seattle sucks. When I was in White Salmon, you could get a vehicle inspected the next day. They don't even really look it over well, either. A friend of mine had his truck inspected and it had a gutted cat and tires that stuck out past the fenders. They passed it

When I got the Infiniti inspected (here in Oregon, since I bought it up in Washington) I was the only person in the DMV office and I chatted with the guy a while about cars and stuff.

What do you think happens if you lie about what you paid for the car.. Always wondered.. Since not everyone has a receipt for the car they bought, you can pretty much put down any price. I think the DMV has better things to do then to check what you paid for a car if you decide to lie.

So what do you call a guy who looks at what mods he wants to buy before he even test drives the car?

we just go to the secretary of state with $243 and walk out with plates and a title comes a month or so later.
ok, so some cars cost more (tax does vary)
and they do question if the cars cost seems fishy
I bought a blazer a few years backfor $700 when I went to pay the taxes they asked why. I told them the truth, I bought it from a friend and it needed a dash and a quarter window

oh, they check

The question is, is it really worth it to go after you for say $176? ($3000 car you report as $1000. 8.8% of $2000 = $176). I paid substantially under blue book for my maxipad, IIRC I had to explain why it was so low but it wasn't a big deal. Mustang wasn't so much of a problem because blue book values do exist on it. The most I've ever seen was 6k which was on the 740i, but we paid over KBB for the car so helps with any red flags.

I don't even think about it anymore. I remember when I bought the Mustang I couldn't figure out why in the world I had to pay tax on something that someone has already paid tax on once before (when it was new). If you buy from a business I could understand but private party?

I say why not. I remember back in the day when the car most were upgrading to were the Audi S4's, then the 350z's, now G-coupes and sedans.

Just tell them what's wrong with it.
I bought my '96 240SX for $1400. I listed the sale price at $800 or something. the girl looked at it and was like "Uhhhh, these cars are worht like $7000.... Are you sure this is right?"
"Yup. bought it off ebay with a blown engine and I'm going to have to dump a bunch of money in it to fix it up."
"Oh, okay. nice deal! you can sell it and make some cash when you get it fixed up!"

or in Jeffy's case..
"The car was stolen and vandalized. they painted the outside an uuuuugly gold color, and the engine, suspension, and brakes are trashed."
"Oh, okay."

Actually no again . Sean is ready and willing. It's me holding it up. I have to arrange for the state patrol to inspect it. Crazy as the only thing wrong with it was the wheels going missing. But you have to call and wait for an appoint. But I need the appointment date to apply for the 60 day temp registration. But they don't call back. Grr.. Sean can't apply for this long extension. Only the owner. I've actually been driving this thing illegally But the stupid state patrol doesn't call. Idiots!

Okay check this out.

Call Bellevue WSP station for appointment. 1 month + 2 calls = NOTHING
Decide to call the Tacoma station that's 1 hour south of me. 5 min = call back for appointment! Cripes WTF is wrong with the Bellevue station! Idiots.

So the car gets inspected Jan 5th. At least I can fill out the 60 day temporary registeration form so I can at least drive this thing legally.

When I bought my max here in wa they wanted me to pay 400$ to have it titled... I was Like WTF? tax on a USED CAR FROM PRIVATE INDIVIDUAL SALE.... she said yep...
so even with the sale price on the title saying 100$ (not true price of sale but thats what the guy was nice enough to write) they wanted to tax me for vehicle worth of over 3 grand or some crap like that ... so i said the car is busted up you have to knock the price down just go look at it! they said that I HAD to go and get it inpected at a body shop and have it appraised for damages to knock down the price.. well I dont have time for that.. So I went to the courthouse with the seller and we

pay attension here

FILLED OUT A BUYERS/Seller agreement form from the county courthouse auditor.

We wrote down all the things that were wrong with it. He signed it I signed it and boom only 24 bucks to register the car.

so that was over 350$ i saved by going to the courhouse auditor instead of the DMV here in WA

just food for thought

Washington sucks for car fees.

I moved there back in the mid 90s, before the $30 tab thing. I had lived in Oregon and bought a new truck when I lived in Oregon. I went to register it in WA and they said it was going to be $1600! I was like WTF? They said if you buy a car within 6 months of moving there, you still have to pay the tax on it.

I remember that, I couldn't believe how much my Mom would have to pay for tabs, and I was just a youngian

It's funny, $30 tabs are actually like $72 or so, go Washington! . Also if you happen to skip on registering a car (say it hasn't had a motor in it for 3 months, the tabs expire, and you finally get it running 10 months later) when you go back to register it you keep the same registration date as when you first signed it. So if 10 months have passed since the tabs expired you pay the regular fee, only get to drive it 2 months before you have to go back for next years tabs. They make you pay for the 10 months it wasn't on the road. I also think it's funny they charge sales tax on a used item. They've already collected tax on it before .

I can't complain too much though, they take care of me with my Collector Car plate .
