Lower Control Arm Bushings

Wuts up guys. My front passengerside controll are bushing has gone to crap and i need a new one. U can see the wear on the bushing and can move the arm from side to side. Im afraid i cannot only buy the bushing and im gona have to buy the whole arm. I stopped by a few auto parts store and they didnt have the arm and couldnt order them. Anyone know where i can get some of these bushings or if I have to the whole arm or im gona have to the dealership. also..... bought 2 new replacement struts for my MAX at my local auto parts store for 50 bucks each and also got quoted at a tint shop for 150 for 20 percent all around which is a ver nice price.

you can buy only the bushings but it isn't worth it IMHO
the whole arm is readily available for $62.50 on my site.

Just got one from internetautomart...It's the easiest and (almost) the cheapest way to go. Trying to replace bushings is not a fun project!

I'm glad I looked here first. I've replace my left control arm twice already. I was thinking about just doing the bushing this time around. But $62 and some change is not bad at all.

New to the forum. I have a 1989 Maxima and am having what i have been told is a problem with my lower control arm bushing. Can someone please tell me if this info is correct based on the following:

I have a terrible leak in my rear main seal and have for some time. I have been told that the oil is corroding my lower control arm bushing and it needs to be replaced. What i am noticing when i drive the car is after taking off from being stopped, by about 3rd gear, the steering wheel will ****** back into its normal position. Also does this after making turns. Almost feels like a rubberband snapping back into place. It's quite unnerving when that happens. I had the lower control arm bushing replaced in May last year for about $108.00 and am being told the oil leak has screwed it up and it needs to be replaced again so just wondering if that sounds acurate. Trying to avoid being ripped off. I would greatly appreciate any assistance anyone could give. Thanx, Heather

First, fix the oil leak.
THEN fix the bushings.

your steering rack bushings are probably also about dead and needing replaced

unfortunately i cant afford to fix both and i can only afford to fix what absolutely has to be fixed in order to maintain some sort of safety. But thank you very much for your reply.

Or you'll be out another $100 for the bushing again, and then of course other stuff in that area like the ps bushings and stuff like matt said again. Pay a little more now and alot less in the long run.

do the work your self and then it'll run you less than $100.
because if you don't fix that leak, the bushing will be destroyed again in short order rendering the vehicle once again unfit for use.
I did my bushings a couple years back, but didn't fix my leak. I need to do my bushing again.
BTW I only drive maybe 10 miles a day in this car, so you do the math on how many miles it lasted.

I found it. Good deal. Thanks alot. The dealer will tell you have to replace the entire thing. Shame on them for trying to make extra money.

I'm now thinking about the first (2) times I replaced the control arms. I could have brought a body kit or something. Fu...@%$!%^#@.

What about replacing the bushings with ES Poly bushings? Would you recommend doing that with the old control arms or with new? And how much time would that take to do myself? Should I get new contol arms, install them so I can use the car, and then get the old ones changed with the ES Poly bushings and keep the new ones for back up? Thanks.

Is it difficult to replace Control Bushing. I am thinking about replacing the control Bushing myself after I fixed the Oil leak.

Ok I went ahead a ordered the poly bushing last week and did the job last night.

Took about 2 hours to do the job. Part of that time was spent tryin to watch the Discovery Channel in the garage while working.

Luckily the control arm just slid out after I unbolted everthing. The hardest part of the job was getting that stupid outter sleeve out. Thinking about doing this in an enclosed area? DON'T!! It get smokey really quick in the garage when you burn that old rubber out. Open the doors and get a fan or move the burn process out to the patio like I did.

IMHO if your gonna replace the bushings go with the Poly. Mine just popped into place(with a minor tap of the ol hammer)There was no pressing involved and they seem more durable.

If you don't have all the tools you need don't even think about doing this job. The money you spend buying everthing you need will probably be more than if you just by the control arm new.

--Hacksaw with good blade or Reciprocating saw with good blade
--Propane torch
--Screw driver
--Something to hold the control arm in place while sawing the outter sleeve
--Time to do the process
