odometer question, please help...
One of my maximas, an 89 GXE, http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2069212 , is equipped w/ digital instrumentation. Several years ago, the most common problem with this feature finally kicked in: intermittent to finally NO display. Nissan reccomended a new computer which controls the whole unit and is attatched to the back of the whole cluster (I forgot the official name at the moment). So, nearly $1000 later, that wasn't the problem and Nissan really f***ed me up. A couple years later, I decided to replace the whole thing with a used one from ebay, a good find. Voila...it now works. HERE'S THE PROBLEM... With that new computer in place, the odometer began at 0. So now, it looks like my 16 year old car has 43,000 miles (I wish). In actuality, it has between 125 and 140,000, who knows for sure. I wanted to know if there is some other device, possiblly the ECU, that can account for the actual mileage of the car, regardless of the instrumentation. If there is, I'd like to reprogram my digital odometer with the true mileage. Anyone, please help with some useful information, not just stories of "yea, mine did that too..." thanx

I pretty sure that tampering with the odometer is a federal offense...even if your trying to do the right thing, like you...when you sell it just tell whoever is buying it the story it the odometer.....

nissan should have supplied you with a sticker for the door jamb that says at what mileage the cluster was replaced.
the oter option is to hook the VSS up to a drill with the car on (not running) and run up the mileage that way (that's only an unproven , untested theory)
