Full Cold Switch And Heater Solenoid

As I continue to putz around under the hood (91 GXE), I noticed the heater **** solenoid/actuator was not working. The actuator works well with vaccum and there is voltage to the solenoid. Yesterday, I put 12 volts on the solenoid and the whole deal worked very well. I suspect I'll have to tear apart the center console next to get to the harnesses behind the climate control to check the "full cold switch". Is this switch replaceable or is it built into the climate control circuit board? What if I don't fix this? Will it effect the a/c or heat? I am going to check out the "power" solenoid next because I don't see that working either. Interesting what happens to the electronics after 15 years.
