axles and lowering

so my boots are cracked and grease is everywhere, but at the joints, so i'm replacing both axles. i read in the 4th gen section awhile back about needing heftier axles to withstand a drop or else they would fail prematurely. eventually i may actually lower and make some modifications to the car so i'm wondering if this applies to us. maybe 4th gen cv joints are just cheap?? i haven't seen any upgraded axles for us anywhere.

unless you're doing a massive ghetto drop...1.0-1.5 drop wouldn't hurt the axles. the boots are made to flex. IMO find a place that carries lifetime warranty on the axles and you should be ok. if you seek something with more quality you can always check with raxles.com

right on, thanks. lifetime warranty sounds good. i'm surprised that there's lifetime warranties available on wearable parts. i'll shop around.

Hey internetautomar,

which pads did you recommend for my Brembo slots. My current ones are gone, and I need a new set before I get to drive my Max anywhere.

Of course if gas prices go up as bad as they're predicting, I'd almost have to wait till my Tax return

my cars been lowered roughly 1.75 inches for the last 60000 miles and ive never had any issue.. what probably killed your joint was the broken boot. You keep good boots on and the axles will last nearly forever. mine are still the original at 176000 (fixed the boots right after they broke) otherwise, for a convience facter i would just go with the lifttime warrenty ones.

no the joints are fine, the boots are cracked and i'm busy fixing my transmission so i'm just going to buy new axles before the joints do go out. thanks everyone. not sure to who i'm getting them from yet, probably napa, brand new ones sound nice though..
