1) What is the highest profile tire i could go with on a 17x7 rim with a 42mm offset without it rubbing.

2) Would a 225/55/17 work or would i have to go with a 45/50.

3) Should i look for a 30mm or 38mm offset?

4) Would the rims look "to far pushed in" to look "clean"

Im not dropped yet but the lowest i would go is eibachs' 1.2 1.2 sportline drop, since my friends 1.7/1.5 drop is to low for houston (4th gen, I don't think they sit any higher or lower stock). I have a 3rd gen, no front lip,side skirts, rear valence etc... just stock.

You don't really want to go bigger than 235/45/17, regardless on a 17x7 rim. With that narrow of an offset (42mm) you might even need spacers. A 42mm offset puts the tire fairly close to the rear strut, but a 225/45/17 will fit. The rear wheels especially look a little to "tucked in" with that offset. That's what my centerline rims are and the fronts look good, but the back is a little too narrow looking, IMO.

With a 17x8 rim (or an 18x8), you need more like a 38 offset and you can even fit 245s under there, like Jeff92SE has on his. There are other guys, too, but he comes to mind, since he has had about 2213434 sets of 17s and 18s on his car.

For 17s, the three best options are:

215/50/17
225/45/17
235/45/17

The closest match to the right speedo reading is actually the 215/50/17, but the other two are kind of in between each other. The sidewall height on all of these are going to be about the same.

If you had, for instance, a 235/55/17, your sidewall would be considerably taller and your speedo would read too slow.
