Tried rebuilding the front calipers
The caliper repair kits that I bought from Carquest would not allow me to put in the piston. Twice I tried and both times the piston would simply slice off some rubber from the seals if enough force applied. The first time it happened I removed the ring that came with the kit and put the old one back in - the piston would go in with some effort. With the new ring there would be no way to insert the piston by hand. I tried a clamp and that's when it sliced the rubber. If compared with the old Nissan ring, the new rings are thicker. What was I doing wrong or was it a defective/wrong kit?
And yes, I did clean up the piston and caliper and did lubricate the ring and piston with brake fluid.
