go to autozone and get a bleeder kit, fill witha bit of brake fluid and attach it to your calipers one at a time. unscrew the bleeder valve on your caliper and press the brake pedal until there are no more air bubbles. tighten up the bleeder valve and move on to the next wheel.

keep in mind to never let the brake resivoir empty out - keep adding more fluid.
I think the order to bleed the wheels is RR-LR-RF-LF, but I can't remember for sure. get a haynes or fsm if you don't have one to check.

edit->a good to ask though is why he didn't road test the car afterwards. that's common, especially after adjusting the brakes

It is a good idea to bleed out the fluid every brake change. You should ask your mechanic if there really is a need to change engine oil also.

I've had a similar (but not the same) issue, but much more sporadic (i.e., maybe one time a month).

I'll step on the brake, and it'll go all the way down to the floor, not responding. However, one pump and the brakes are firm as ever.

It's wierd because it doesn't happen all the time, and I had some brake work done a while back, but the guy didn't notice anything (although I didn't tell him...he's a pretty good guy and hasn't done me wrong on any of my cars).
