Napa sells grade 8 metric studs for a lot cheaper. If you take one in they can match it up or order what you need. I went that route and it worked out just fine. I checked a Carquest and they wanted twice as much as Napa. I've used the Napa grade 8s quite a bit and never had a problem including V6 Pathfinders and Hardbodys. Good Luck!

$89 is a hell of a lot for some studs and bolts.

I bought a rod of 8 x 1.25 mm (metric!) from a local fasteners company here and it cost me like US$12-13 for all 12 studs. I cut them into 50mm (2") pieces with an angle grinder and then rethreaded every end. They have regular and high strength rods, so I bought the later one. The nuts were from Nissan, they are like 50 cents a piece IIRC.

Thanks to a guy who did my manifold studs - he pointed me in the right direction for the source of studs.

got the ones that napa had. Totally wrong. I did find hardened studs just a Tad longer on the nut side. They ran 1.19 a piece.

The ones I got from NAPA for my VE were a bit longer but worked fine. I think they were about that price.

If anyone, for any reason, has their heads off the car, do the following. Ditch those wimpy Nissan studs, take the heads to a machine shop, have the stud holes drilled out and tapped for a 10x1.25mm Toyota exhaust stud. WAAAAAYYYYY beefier than those Nissan studs, only 8x1.25mm size. I'd already done the stud/gasket replacement before w/ nissan stuff. But I had the opportunity to do this (engine rebuild), and it's worth it. And yes, the stock manifold holes fit the bigger studs without mods, you just have to open up the stud holes in the gaskets.

I will be replacing my exhaust studs on my current engine as soon as the weather fairs out and me having ample of time on my hand. As for the toyota studs, I think I will have to start saving up for a used VG so that I can completely rebuild it from the ground up, learning things as I go along. BTW, thanks Dillbag for the info.

Yeah, that's what I did. I bought a 60k mile junkyard engine and rebuilt it. It was pretty sweet too, the engine had EVERYTHING on it, like it just came out of the car. I've got a spare almost everything now.

BTW: I'm Not 100% about the thread pitch of the Toyota studs, it may be 10x1.50mm. Can't remember. I'll check and edit if nec.
