temperature problem

Well go the first cool morning in a while i austin...and on my way to work noticed something. My engine got up to operating temp but seemingly only at a stoplight...soon as i took off and started driving i could see the temp guage fall and the heat coming through the vent actually lessened. Any thoughts on what that would be? It's been hot and there was no problem with the engine temp getting too hot, the guage was rock steady. I would have searched but i'm getting an error for some reason. Any help is appreciated!

Its probably stuck open so the car is being cooled but then when it is getting too cold and t-stat should close, it doesnt so it overcools.
