Discovered Something Leakin Need Help (PICS!)
I look under the car and saw something leaking under the tranny cant seem to figure out what is leakin. Also noticed nasty stuff on my rims and tires so i looked under and saw the strut and steering rack covered with this grease stuff same with all over the wheel well. PIC BELOW!
You have a broken cv axle boot= replace axle
You either have a leaking rear main engine seal or leaking front tranny seal=ARHHG!! pia
Edit: The oil on the tranny looks like engine oil= rear main seal

Actuallly that lip piece is moveable...You can tap it in with a hammer
Ok, well is this important to fix asap? I have been driving around proably for about a week maybe longer till I noticed today. How many hours would the axle take to do? What are the parts that are needed and how much? Is it worth fixing?

I had the same looking liquid on my balljoint cv shaft. I finally got a squeel from my power steering pump. my high pressure hose was leaking at high pressure.how i found where the leak was.... I opened the hood started the car and turned the wheel to left and then to right. when almost a full turn fluid from power steering hose shot out.

So which is it? the Axle or the high pressure hose? I am going to take this to the shop tommarow need some help quick. My battery died now too so I am thinkin my alternators bad, it was a new battery about 8 months old. All this stuff at one time wow. Just fixed window regulator too.

He could just replace the boot, but i have found from EXPERIENCE that once the boot breaks, the cv joint is not far behind it...
To get to the seal you have to.....
Drain tranny fluid
Remove wheels
Remove brakes
Separate ball joint from control arm
Separate hub from struts
Remove drive shafts
Remove intake,battery/tray
remove tranny
Remove clutch components
remove flywheel
remove seal/put in new one
put all of that crap back on
Several steps to were left out or this would have taken me a hour to write up...But that is it in a condensed version...

I would not recommend this job for a amateur with not many tools....Check the local shops in your area for a labor quote...
If you fix it then you know what you got riding under you, with another car you are in the dark again....

just get a reman axle. its alot easier.
to change an axle, pull off wheel, 36mm nut, pull off strut (2 17's and 3 14's) turn splindle to get to axle, pull gently, incresing force with each pull till it comes out. for the drivers side, then for the pass side you need to get to 3 12mm bolts that hold a bearing carrier I had to take off the Y pipe which isnt hard. 6 12 or 14 or a mix of both. after that just yank out the pass axle and your set.
Oh and get PB Blaster. everything else is good but waste of money.

advanced should, thats where i got mine.
lets see, working at a moderate pace, about an hour to take out the axles. Are you also going to replace the tranny to axle seals? I would its $7 from internetautomart.com and your there any way. might be one of your leaks. should be about 2 hrs total depending on how many miles are on the ATF id change it insted of reusing it maybe. but yea its easy, souldnt be that hard after you've done stuff like the y pipe.

That's robbery. The axle cost about $60, and most places shouldn't charge you more than $60 more to do the labor...try looking for a shop that specializes in axles/CV Joints

I did mine over the winter and found that every nut and bolt came off like it had been on the car 13 year. That short step of getting the hub nuts loose and controll arms involved a lot of swearing,
, lube, heat, a 3' pipe and me jumping up and down on the breaker bar to get it off. If you haven't had your car apart, and you don't have good impact tools, it might be better to let a shop do it!
