Exhaust Leak on Y Pipe

i have an exhaust leak on my y pipe. its about 3 inches in front of the flex section right on the top of it. the mounting bolts look pretty rusty, im affraid i might break the studs off or something if i try to get it off. are there any precautions i should take before trying to take the pipe off to weld it?

Thanks
Tony

If it is that bad get a warpspeed y-pipe and just replace it. If it is rusted through in one place what is the rest of it going to be like?

A good muffler shop may be able to weld it on the car......

if you take the y pipe out make sure to spray some bolt breaker spray on the bolts, and let it set for a few mins, also try to do it when the car is warm, not cold. the bolts come out easier this way.
My advise. Get a WSP y-pipe. call it a day.
But if you insist on welding the y pipe up, make sure thats not your only leak
max's are notorios for broken exaust manifold studs, wich can leak like heck and make you think your y pipe is leaking.
good luck

Best just let a muffler shop do it, or at least have them take the nuts/bolts, especially if there is any rust under there it is going to be a PAIN!!
