Waiting for "I-Bent-My-Key-Day"

We've had a ton of rain the past week or so. Now it's tough to turn the lock with my key, I just know eventually it's gonna end up bending/breaking off if I can't get that lock to turn more easily. What are the odds that some WD-40 sprayed in the lock will relieve this, or am I gonna have to take off that whole door panel?

hmm, why dont you just give it a try with DW-40 and if it doesnt work then take the door panel off, its not that bad, the only ***** is taking out the handles that you lift to open the door.

I just changed my speakers 2 days ago and dont like how you gotta take the whole door panel off just to do that, thats something i like about my old honda.

Succes rate probably 95% - only after/if u hit the keyhole. The lock mech itself lubr means panel mostly off, at the least handle...

As mr coulombian rightly suggested, easier todo than ask.

just go to a car parts store and get the stuff thats ment for it. Its liquid graphite (very slippery stuff) and made for locks. My mazda was already tough to turn just last week and it was still 70-80 here, and that stuff made it easy again. I went ahead and put some in my max as preemtive matience.

~Alex

PS- What made me get the graphite stuff is my 1 month old key was cracking already from the lock. So the lock was really tough, now its as smooth as butter

Recipe for Tarzan's redneck liquid graphite (tm): buy a pensil (buck a dozen), scrape graphite powder into a yogurt can with a knife, mix with WD-40, apply to your key and open/close lock, repeat several times.

WD-40 dissolves greases. I dont suggest using it, unless you want to carry around a can of WD-40 with you forever.

Liquid graphite? Just buy some permatex "antiseize" it is the same thing. Buy it at autozone.

I like that recipe. Find a locksmith/key store, they're still around; liquid graphite in a handy tube $4

Its funny cuz autozone is like Ricerzone by my house. Nothing but Fast and the Furious wannabes, I'm including my friend he's a moron.

Anyway, I think I might be buying some of that liquid stuff alex mentioned, sounds like a handy tube to have

Lithium grease spray is wonder stuff. Bad side: Its wonder ingredient dries/vaporizes out in '12 months'...

Whatever u use, look ingredients: not alcohol.

don't use wd-40 on your mechanisms.....you'll have a great intially result but then it'll eventually attract and hold on to more dirt and debris.

as was already mentioned, liquid graphite is the best stuff out there for tight mechanisms like your door lock. it may take some time to work it into all the nooks and crannies but worth it and it won't do more harm than good in the long run

c'mon guys...at least give him the CORRECT solution.

use WD40 in the lock...spray it in..and i mean drown it. WD = WATER DISPLACEMENT

ok once that's nice and wet get a rag and mop up the mess. feel free to work your key in there a few time and spray some more WD40. this will loosen all the pins up and wash out the crud in there.

now that it's totally water free get the lock ease. it's liquid graphite lube...what happens is that the liquid will carry the graphite and then it'll dry out and leave a nice film of graphite in the key hole. so once that's dry your key hole should be trouble free.

lithium grease is great...but everytime you pull your key out you have a very greasy key on your hands. people usually put keys in their pockets.

antisieze is a high temp grease mixed with copper powder. if you want to mess up your lock this is the way to do it.

I did get some kinda lock stuff from autozone, apparently it also deices. Which pays for itself, with the frozen tundra that is southeast Virginia....

that being said, a couple of squirts, all was well. Which reminds me of another story....
