No, really, I do have a catback...somewhere...

One of the first things I did (besides my piano keys) was get my catback on my '92 SE. The Dynomax Super Turbo sounded excellent on my Altima, nice deep rumble, quiet enough to not attract toe Po-Po, but get on the gas and people knew you were coming. And very little in-cabin resonance.

So same thing with my SE, 2.25 custom catback with a Dynomax. Not even close to the same. Yes, it's still nice and low, but not even close to loud enough. My intake is louder than my exhaust. So what's the next step up for this motor? I don't want a loud drone at cruising speeds, or for it to be obnoxious any time I touch the gas pedal.

Recommendations?

Do you still have the resonators on there? Also for me, this is just my personal experience, I had a 2.25 cat back with a magnaflow race series muffler with no resonator and it was pretty loud. Then once i got the Y-pipe from warpspeed it got even louder. Then i traded the maxima for a firebird and it got reallllly loud. But if you have the resonator on there take it off if you want it louder.

ever taken your cat off? drive that around for a bit and you will have a new understanding of loud, but be warned what little low end the max has disapears.

fun time < 30 min

I've ran a 2.5 straight pipe cat back.
it was fun, but not for the faint of heart or people who park in garages

I have a proformance down pipe upgarde CAT and 2.5 mid pipe to a Metrix muffler with no resonator comboed with a CAI and It's not too load at cruising speeds but when i open it up people know it's me. It's not real "rice-e" sound more "beefy". hell i've had rednecks in V8 pull up rev up and get pissed because mine had a better tone than theres. Obviously they have a larger moter but mine sounds better. IMO. and obviously theres too because they got mad when i reved mine back! I also have a Auto tranny so cruising speed are easier to contol RPMs. at the right RPM and speed you can hear back pressure like a Big Block

I mentioned it to the guys that did my catback and they said there wasn't a resonator. Which I thought was odd.

But I do have a warspeed y-pipe waiting to be installed, maybe that'll change things.

Yes it is very loud. LOL my parts car had just a y pipe....um WOW

My 90se I just finsihed has a 2in x 4in x2in U shaped hole in the cat, and its LOUD AND FAST!! the cat has 80% of the material gutted through that hole. It still has alot of bottom end and alot of top end as well. Its crazy I tell you. Id keep it this way If I didnt go through drive thoughs as much and wouldnt get me tickets. Hopefully Ill have about the same HP when i close it up...

has anyone tried putting a cat and resonator from a 90-96 300zx, i heard it could be done with the correct mods to the maxima the pipe diameter should work from the 300zx, and also the cat off the z also........just wondering if this can be done, my friend thinks he knows all. but i owned a 91 Z and i dont think it will work

anyideas?

regardless if you can do it the purpose of a MOD is to upgrade the proformance. so by putting a factory part off another car although it may have better flow your still not going to see the full potientail of just buying a good aftermarket proformance CAT and leaving out the resonator.

If your friend wants to do it just so he can say he MODDED it than cool otherwise just because you make it fit that don't make it cool! IN MY OPINION!!!

hey hey hey...

after you put the y-pipe in, it'll be much louder... you might actually not like it.
