Manifold Stud Question - Y-pipe

Did any of you guys have to remove the y-pipe from the cat when you relpaced the exhaust manifold studs or is there enough room to work by just unbolting it from the manifolds?

Thanks!

yes, you have to remove it fromt he cat. otherwise you'll have no room to get yourself under the car as well.

this isn't a 10 minute job.....

I know this job is still doable even with a welded exhaust system. The guy, who did my studs, did not have to unbolt the cat (though I do have a flanged cat now).

Appreicate the response. I have set aside 2 days for this one. Just need to get another gasket now.

...is it possible to 'just unbolt the manifolds'

It took me a weekend.

I'm expecting it to be at least a 2 day job. It sounds like the rear manifold came off completely. Not to mention the exhaust stink the vents suck into the car now.

If you have your gasket, all the hardware, right angle drill, drill bits, EZ outs. 2 FULL days is realistic, I didn't have a choice and i got it done in that time.

last time I did the job, it took me 6 hours start to finish, and I had to drill out 6 studs between both heads.
