Wiper Pivot Point

The pivot point on my drivers side wiper is loose. The arm is tight on the pivot, but the pivot itself can be rocked around. As a result, the wiper arm rubs against the hood when its leaving the lowered position.

Any others with this issue?

Can I just tighten the pivot? or do I need to replace it?

I've checked the FSM.pdf and I can't find it.

Mike S.

EDIT: By pivot, i mean the spindle that the arm attaches too.

Sorry...should have been more specific.

I mean the spindle that the wiper arm attaches too.

FSM is full of holes. Here sits a viperhole...

I suppose its like other nissans: plastic bushing that wears out. Poor de-sign quality ... Wish the three 'spindle' assy attachement nuts are loose? Take the car wide blk panel out... Hidden under small plastic bits are couple of x -screws, couple of plastic lock bits.

Car Needs to be changed or this bearing lubricated - periodically. Buy new poor quality bushing from shop.

Been there done that. I had exact same problem 3 years ago. Had to buy 2 new pivots, 2 new connections and replace them all. Took me 2 hours due to the pivot screws had to be drilled out - PITA to drill with a cordless drill in an apartment building parking lot.
Why that happens? Because the galvanized arm axles finally wear off the coat and rust, rust separates from them and becomes highly abrasive on the nylon pivots. End result pivot has oval tapering inside and the axles start playing.
