water pump pully (tbelt job)

I cant for the life of me get the lower tbelt cover off. The water pump pully is in the way. I took off the 4 bolts on it and soaked in WD40, but no luck. Is there something I'm missing? Can I try torching it, or would that cause damage?

I wouldnt hit it with the torch cause its aluminum. There isnt anything else holing it on, so I would put something behind it and pry, just make sure you put it back on the right way or you will be constantly shredding that belt (oops)

k got it off prying. As I was trying to put the new belt on, the rear cam sprocket spring back about 1/4 turn and I heard a slight metallic *tink*. Did I just **** up a valve? I cant get the damn sprocket to stay in the right place while I put the belt on, it seems to want to turn either forwards or backwards. Getting it to line up with mark on the rear timing cover is a pain. Any tips?

Hmm, maybe I should stick a breaker bar on the nut. That would probably be the smart thing to do.

It lives! Got the belt all lined up, put it together, and it would crank but not fire at all.

"!@($#(^)#!()%#!!!!!!"

Popped the hood, and realized I forgot the connector at the top of the tbelt cover. Plugged that in, and she fired right up.

We actually have the same motor. Maybe a few things like the intake manifold, but it's all the same VG30E.

I didnt bother with the waterpump. Used a gatorback belt.

It's official: I borked my motor. Runs on 4 cylinders now. I guess I did manage to fubar a few valves when the sprocket snapped backwards. I'm going to test the compression tomorrow to know for sure (and because I've wanted to for a while).

Looks like I'll be hitting U-Wrench-It over thanksgiving

I think I'll just throw on a junkyard head, thanks though. Shipping would be the killer, and the yards around here are packed with VGs
