cloudy E36 headlights

anybody know how to disassemble the E36 lights so I can clean them up a bit from the inside. Ever since I first used them, they fogged up like crazy.

Inside? You mean you have moisture that condenses on the inside of the lens?

Same here, mine are cloudy to the point where girls and other non-car people notice. It's is VERY hard to separate them. BMW used some insane glue, and I have yet to figure it out. I might just switch to angel eyes next summer.

The seal deteriorates and lets moisture in.

yeah, but the fact that it happened instantly when I turned on the lights for the first time goes to show that these lights suck. Would the Euro E36s with the glass housing have this same problem. And if not, are they street legal in the US?

Drill a small hole in the bottom of them so they can dry out... then fill the hole and go over the stock seal yourself

yeah i was thinking about cutting out the plastic housing all together, leaving the lenses exposed, but I doubt the car would pass inspection like that. To the previous message, go over the seal how? with what? if you're cutting a whole in the plastic. These lights must be junk if they immediately cloud up. I never had that problem with the OEM lights, and I've always considered those to be of sub-par quality.

Is there a sticky or a write up on how to install and flush mount the E36's? Or is it basic? I'm pretty handy when it comes to simple fab but if it is complicated I might need a write up.

E-bay knock offs are imitation OEM BMW, alot cheaper than buying OEM, The real E36 lights wouldnt fog up on you so quickly. OEM ones are more than likely made in Germany, not Malaysia or Taiwan or countries of that type.

location of production is no real indicator of quality.

You missed my point, BMW's standards from their suppliers are probably alot more stringent than an aftermarket direct to consumer part company's. And most of those come from the countries I listed.

look at alot of OEM parts, they're made all over the place typically in china and other places with low labor costs.

BTW BMW OEM is Hella, I have them on my site

no, Hella is the brand that makes the aftermarket E36 lights. I know that because awhile back I purchased the Hella E36 lights from you and they immediately clouded up as soon as I hooked them up. Anybody know where I can buy OEM E36 lights?

think hard for one second........oem stands for original equipment manufactured. ok now think, hmm where can i get them......maybe a bmw dealer, maybe someone upgrading thier original lights, hmm where would they be selling them? hmm maybe bmw forums?

if you even read the writeeup it tells you what you need and most importantly where to get them.

i hate to be harsh, but geez man youre asking simple ass questions.

While you're over there ask them about the e46 muffler bearing mod for your Max, it's good for 15-20 hp and it's relatively cheap...

Muffler bearings can be bought new. I wouldn't recommend getting used ones. Go to this site to order them, and all the other performace and maintenance parts you might need.

There's another cool mod the Bimmer boys say is really effective for braking distance, the cross drilled brake lines, but I'd go with the Wilwood or Brembo versions, they're a little bit better than the Kaleco's...

Wow, nice sig....

Oh wait too bad that is a 5th gen prelude for one.
Oh wait you ripped it off.
Oh wait you ripped off the whole pic and just crappily put your little logo over the original logo that was on the bottom of it. Real original.

Hella is also the OE for those lights.

I'm wondering if maybe during the modification to the lights something cracked and that is letting in water.
it may just be a defective set too, it does happen on rare occasion (never seen it though)
