ok, i just bought a cone filter (K&N style) and went to work. first i removed my airbox, then i drilled out the two rivits in the plate in the box. i used this plate to attach the cone. i bent and ground the inside brass piece to fit the cone, and then clamped her on. looks perfect! then instead of buying one of those little import PVC breathers, i went and bought a MR. Gasket BIG ONE! it's very pimp. it's not red so it doesn't match the rest of the engine, but chrome isn't too bad. anyway, i attached that before the hose that runs to the intake becomes rubber. it all looks nice and runs good too. i also made a dust protector from the old battery cover. it looks totally pro too! i'll post pics asap.

25 bucks for the cone filter (more if you buy a genuine K&N) but i just bought a pep boys cone filter. took about an hour or so. I'll post pics asap. Phil96SE is gonna take em. it SOUNDS SOOOOOOOOOOOOO good, about 4grand the sound kicks in. it seems like the top end got alot more, but i also ripped off my intake muffler, and put the pcv breather on. Pics ASAP I PROMISE!

That's nevin's old VG bar actually.(hence the sticker) it was one of the first courtesy ever produced. and it fit! it rubbed on my plenum a LITTLE bit so i raised it with a set of brass washers, and ground where it was rubbing back a little. I still get some engine noise in the cabin cause it's so close, but other than that, i really didn't mod it.

on the pvc breather, did you close up the other end? the end of the tube that runs into the intake? or what did you do with the hole that it left?

yeah, you don't necessarily need a breather there, (as far as i know) but it's better than leaving it open. and yes you do have to plug the hole if you look closely you can see where there's a hose clamp. we used a hood bump off the accord (we had extra parts laying around) it just happened to fit and be black rubber and look ok. i just don't like yucky gasses going into my intake! that's why i'm researching that EGR mod i was talking about. but i'm not sure as to what that'll do yet. but so far i'm very pleased with everything.

Did I do something wrong? I didnt even mess with that part on my intake I still have the rubber hose on mine. All I did was bolt the intake and adapter plate on the end of the MAF...I am confused...

LOL no dude, you are 100% ok!!!!!!! I just chose to NOT have my PCV run back into my intake. it's just a different mod, that i did at the same time. the pop charger is just the filter element, and has NOTHING to do with the PCV valve. sorry for the confusion.

thanks flyry, i was thinking about doing this a while back and couldnt find a real good way to mount it. but when i saw your post, i went back out there and looked at the stock airbox. i flipped it over, and there was that copper piece! man thats perfect for mounting it!! i cant believe i hadnt noticed it before. so, i went to pepboys and got an apc filter. its chrome, and i also got the pcv breather that matches it perfectly. the whole thing took like 30 minutes, lol....the hardest part was getting that stupid airbox out. it looks really great.

i woulda gotten the chrome one too but i didn't like how it had writing on top. i was thinking about selling this one to my buddy with a sentra (same setup inside the airbox!) and getting a longer one. Jegs sells an 8" one. there's just sooooo much room still. post some pics when you get em. congrats on the mod!!! i have the same cone you do. . . . hopefully they're decent. It also seems like it breaks in after a few days. oh do you still have your intake muffler too? i ripped that big hunk o junk off too. but i did that a while ago.

the pep boys by me had a pretty big selection of cone filters. some had the closed top, and some had the open top. they were all by apc, and the closed top ones had "intimidator" or something like that on it. and i didnt much like that. lol. i got the open top chrome one. looks really good. i'm not sure what the intake muffler is?

oh thank god!!!!!!!! that's what i did too! lol, i got the open top, only they didn't have chrome, so i got red to go with my valve cover. I painted the nissan on the upper plenum, and on the front valve cover red. ok, look at that pic of my intake again. Look at the PCV breather. and you'll see where it was supposed to run. it was supposed to run to that spot on the intake that now has just a hose clamp and a plug (after the MAF on the intake). Now if you look just below that plug where the PCV hose went you'll see a stupide nissan clamp (the kind with the two hoops and a bolt goin through it) that's where the intake muffler goes. I simply removed it. I am thinking about making a piece to go after the MAF to the Intake Plenum, cause that ribbing has to cause a TON of turbulence. but there's a hose that runs out of that, and i'm not sure what it's for yet. for now, i'm very pleased with it. Oh, if you take out that intake muffler, it may get a bit louder

ok i know what your talking about now. i saw that earlier and had no idea what it was for! i figured it muffled the sound somehow. so when you took it off, was there a hole left there? did you plug it up if there was one? yeah i hate that rippled rubber crap. thats why i'm so fond of the PR cai, cuz it has a piece that replaces the rippled secion.

YES!

Did it last night! Started around 10, didnt get done until 1:00 or so. But about 2 hours was spent driving to get tools that I needed. That box is a ***** to get out! I rigged mine in a diffrent way. Put some bolts through the foam around the outside of the cone. Seems to be holding well and there is no vissable gaps between filter and intake.

Re: YES!

hmmmmmmmmm, i'm not trying to be mean, but that doesn't sound like a very good way to secure that. I ran a 15.2 tonight with my intake, and before i was running just an open intake. seemed to make me a bit quicker.

im gonna make an intake when im home on spring break
im gonna do the same things that u guys did for the intake, but could someone please explain a bit more on the intake muffler and the breather?
one more thing, im gonna put a cone filter on and replace the airox, but did you guys leave the piping on that went up to the airbox?
i would think that more air would flow so that would work well too
im not sure if i want to mount a pipe that takes the cone filter up to near the headlight or if i want to leave it near the airbox
thanks for any help

when you are talking about the pop charger do you mean something like an e-ram ? or is it just the filter?
