My new $1 DD

Yep, I just got my 92 VE 5spd for $1 from my in-laws (they are good for something!) It's in surprisingly good shape considering the 295k on the clock. It still pulls hard but smokes a little on startup. The body is in great shape as is the interior. I already fixed the seatbelt sensor and door open chime annoyances and did the always-on cruise control thanks to Craig's writeups. I still need to restore power to the cigarette lighter and resolder the door lock timer. I also need a black steering wheel as the leather is peeling off pretty badly. I think I might have some VTC noise but it might be lifter noise also. It's not loud, but noticeable at low rpm.

Here's the only pic so far:

And here's the reason I got the Max for a DD. 97 240SX SE KA-T

Thanks for the compliments. The 240 is definitely going to get most of the mods and all of the track time, but I'm thinking about wheels/tires/springs/shocks for the VE. Here's a modlist for the 240 and here's an engine pic:

O.o that is sweet! That reminds me of a story when someone bought some awsome sports car (I forgot offhand ) for $1 for some odd reason. I bet you are going to have some fun times with both!

Nice 240 and excellent deal on the Maxima, which looks great for so many miles.

Check through the 3rd gen for sale forum and you are bound to come across someone selling struts and springs or other parts you might need. Just be warned that the stock struts don't take to lowering very well, so you need to buy KYB or Tokicos to keep them from blowing, especially if you go lower than Eibachs.

Does your 92 have an airbag? If not, you can use an s13 or a z31 steering wheel instead of the stock one. They seem to be more common on ebay, but I suggest waiting until you can find one with cruise control. I have one in my car that I got on ebay for <$20. I am sure some drifter took it out to put in a Sparco or something.

jesus christ man, you don't need a car to "pick up chicks". and any girls you do pick up because of your car should be left on the street where they belong.

It was a Lotus IIRC. A wife caught her husband cheating and sold it on eBay for a dollar. Husband prolly was pi$$ed but paybacks a b***h.

BTW nice 240 and congrats on the dollar deal.

hmm, well if she was legally entitled to sell it, it means that the car was registered to her, therefore she would have been screwing herself over. where's the payback in that?

I did see a few people post about the S13 wheel. I do have an airbag, but am not worried about losing it. Cruise control would be a must.

I moved from Columbus, OH to Greensboro, NC in June. I was up there for 4 years and hung out with the ColumbusRacing.com crowd a fair bit.

Haha, actually it's an S14. Some people call them S14a or Kouki's, but it was just the front end revision for the 97-98 models. The S15 was never imported here. It was made from 99-02; here's a pic.

I'm still going to drive the 240 plenty, but as it gets more and more track-oriented, it gets less comfortable and reliable. The Maxima is still half DD/half backup for mod downtime.
