That's funny, because my tank is definitely 15 gallons in my 93 GXE

92 gxe auto. used to get about 310, changed oil to valvoline synthetic blend, it went up to around 350-360. 189000 miles, change the oil at 3500-5000 miles. I have never put any oil in it between changes. and when i do change it, the oil is still somewhat clean (hence the 5000 miles).

I just filled up my tank this past friday night took 30 bucks to fill @ 2.24 a gallon=13.669 gallons total and my needle was as far as it could go. So far I'm on E and drove 235 miles of heavy footing, so I cant really tell what my actual gas mileage is driving like a granny. 17 mpg of rough drivin i guess isnt too bad

you can't calc your mileage until you fill it up full again. then you take the number of gallons you put in and divide it by the numbers of miles you've gone since the last FULL up

Are you referring to doing it twice to get an average or are you saying by fillin up and going to E wont give gas mileage?

235/13.669=17.1 did I like do it wrong? lol

I mean you need to fill it up once, don't care how many gallons it took.
let's say you filled it up at 125200 then drive around for a while and fill up again
now you need the # of gallons you put in this time , let's say 15.67 and the mileage you are at now, let's say 125432.

so then subtract the mileages from each other 125432-125200=232 miles driven on 15.67 gallons of gas which means that it got (232/15.67) 14.81 miles to the gallon that tank.

our gauges our too inaccurate to calculate it any other way

[QUOTE=maximapitko] On the highway I get exactly 32mpg doing 75mph. QUOTE]

Hmmm. I touched 30 once... generally get about 27 doing steady 75mph... been like that more/less for five years... always felt that it could do better.

Any suggestions? Anything you did that got you there? I know I need to go through the thing... vacuum hoses and such... but plugs good, coils good (I think) runs well and feels strong. Jumped the knock sensor.

What are your VTCs like?

Any idea if a 91 3.0 has VTCs, or is that just the DOHC models?

Only 92-94 SEs have VTCs, on the "VE" engine (yes, DOHC). All 89-91 and 92-94 GXEs have the "VG" engine.

Thanks for clearing that up!

And back to gas mileage, in MA we have this BS with 10% ethanol in the fuel, and I suspect that even after a full tune up, it's still costing me mileage somehow. Is this even possible? I swear this state does everything wrong

actually ethanol should increase your mileage considering it will increase the combustion temperature and it burns cleaner which is better for our engines, I've actually looked into outfitting an VG to run on pure ethanol (when gas was $3.xx a gallon)... it could be done for $500 - $1000 it would in theory be better but the practical application is still to come...

Well? What the hell did you end up with? The guage in the cluster is pretty NON-linear. ie... 1st half tank you go a million miles. 2nd half it drops like a rock.
