might be replacing the knock sensor to fix my no power problem with my VE. Is there any tricks to this????? For intance, Im pretty sure that with the VQs you can reach the sensor without taking off the whole Intake Manifold. Is this possible witht he VE?????? Thanks

Nope, sorry there's not any tricks to replacing it. The knock sensor is buried under the intake manifolds and there's a coolant pipe directly above the bolt itself. One thing that I did on my old VE and some people do while their down there is wrap the coolant pipe with hedder wrap to keep the hot pipe from heating the intake manifolds.

Dangit....I didnt think I would be as lucky as the VQ guys and gals.........on the other hand why would you and other paople wrap the coolant hose to prevent it from gettin the intake hot???? That hose runs there because its supposed to be hot to heat the manifolds to atomize the fuel when the injectors spray. have you noticed any kind of gains from that????

I just replaced mine when I repplaced the VTCs (and water pump etc., etc.) Took over 20 hours. If you were gonna just do the knock sensor, probably at least 3-4 hours, if nothing goes wrong. There is a guy on the ebay, sells brand new KS for $68 shipped, by the way. If you can't fiund him, email me and I'll send you a link. It's a REAL good price.

I doubt the coolant pipe does anything to help the combustion process. The idea is "the cooler the air in the intake the better" for the most part anyways. I'm sure the engine stays hot enough to atomize the fuel properly on it's own. I don't think I noticed any gains, it was hard to tell because I did it while I was replacing my knock sensor and that made a huge difference by itself.

I didn't check the brand, but it looked just like the OEM one, with the yellow dot on the top. It was packaged in the plain white box with a label. I didn't save the box, but you can ask the guy yourself. My stock one was cracked all the way across the top, and all the way around the harness piece, and all the way around the sensor itself, and that's the factory installed one at 125K miles. It was also warped on one side. Here is the link, let me know if it doesn't work.BTW, it has the same # on it as stock.

BTW, it says that it fits '93-'99 Maxima's, but it suppose to be '92-'99. I installed mine and it works fine. $68 shipped is way better than $120 to $165 + shipping.
